Pollard Posts Strong Runner-Up Finish in the Music City
Dirt Track Fun Up Next for the Georgia Driver
SENOIA, Ga. — Bubba Pollard made his way to the Music City this past weekend hoping to strum a sweet song with the All American 400 trophy guitar. At the end of the day Sunday, the Late Model star came up just one spot short and crossed the finish line second at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (TN).
“We didn’t make the changes we needed to throughout the race,” Pollard said after the race. “We just didn’t make the right ones and that seems to always be our case in these bigger races. We just don’t make the right adjustments at the break when we take tires and all of that, we just don’t go the right direction. It’s tough. The car was tight and we could never really get it out of it all day. It makes for a long day.”
For much of the 300-lap race, Pollard seemed to be lying in the weeds waiting for his opportunity to pounce. After starting 12th on the gird, the Senoia, Georgia driver eased his way up through the field before having a shot at the win in the final 50 laps of the race.
“I knew we had a good car and I knew we were capable of it all day, we were just kind of easing our way up through the field,” said Pollard. “There were some guys up through there that we had never raced with before and you don’t know exactly what they’re going to do. I knew they had fast race cars. We were just kind of buying our time to make it up there.”
Although Pollard was disappointed to not be holding the trophy guitar at the end of the day, his strong runner-up finish continues one of his most impressive seasons behind the wheel. In 2015, he has recorded wins in the Winter Showdown at Kern County (CA), Summer Showdown at Evergreen (WA), Red-Eye 100 at New Smyrna (FL) and the Rattler 125 at South Alabama. He also has three Southern Super Series wins, two at Five Flags (FL) and one at Mobile (AL).
Pollard will now enjoy a brief break from asphalt racing to compete in the National 100 Dirt Super Late Model race on November 1. He returns to the pavement onNovember 15 for the Florida Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna before preparing for the granddaddy of them all, the Snowball Derby on December 6 at Five Flags.
“I’m going to go do some dirt racing and have some fun. We’ve got to put some cars together and get ready for the Governor’s Cup and the (Snowball) Derby.”
