Syracuse Moody Mile Memories Just Got Bigger for Motorsports 2016

Memories of the New York State Fairgrounds “Moody Mile” Continue to Grow As Major Part of Motorsports 2016 Race Car and Trade Show

OAKS, PA (January 7, 2016) — The New York State Fairgrounds “Moody Mile” Reunion continues to grow with more and more attractions being included. The Reunion will be held as part of the 31st annual Pioneer Pole Buildings Motorsports 2016 Presented by Sunoco and Distributed by Insinger Performance Race Car & Trade Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa. on Friday – Sunday, January 22nd thru January 24th.

The one-mile dirt track in Syracuse, NY had been the home of Super DIRT Week since 1972 until the 44th and final event was held this past October. SDW’s first ever winner, Buzzie Reutimann, will be on hand at the show and be part of a special autograph session on Saturday afternoon starting at 2 PM among other winners of dirt Modified racing’s biggest event. Stewart Friesen, who won the Syracuse 200 this past year will also be part of the special autograph session along with another four-time race winner Gary Balough. Reutimann’s famed Dover Brake No.00 coupe will be part of the weekend reunion display as will Friesen’s winning car from 2015 and Balough’s rule changing “Batmobile” No. 112 that rocked the sport in 1980.

Other former SDW Modified winners already confirming their appearance at the Saturday autograph session include Jimmy Horton, Frank Cozze, Matt Sheppard, Kenny Brightbill, Billy Dunn and Richard Tobias.

Glenn Donnelly, the founder of Super DIRT Week is also expected to attend on Saturday. Donnelly’s new Central New York Speedway Park, which will replace the New York State Fairgrounds as the host of SDW in 2016 will also have a display at the show.

Jimmy Phelps’s HBR No. 6 which featured a retro paint scheme used by car builder Maynard Troyer when Mike McLaughlin drove for him 30 years ago will also be part of the display. Phelps drove this car to victory in the 150 lap 358 Modified race this past year at Syracuse. The event’s Sportsman winner Rocky Warner, who inherited the win after a disqualification two days later, will get his share of the glory at the show. Warner’s winning ride, the Jake Spraker No. 1 will be on display as will three time Pro Stock winner at Syracuse Rob Yetman along with his 2015 winning ride.

Noted artist Emerson Freese has created a drawing specifically for the Syracuse Reunion at the show and copies will be given away free as the former Syracuse winners sign it on Saturday at the show. This will become a collector’s item.

Well-known historian Dr. Gary George will be presenting two special stage events. On Friday night at 6 PM at the stage area, George will go over the entire 100 year history of the New York State Fairgrounds with a focus on events other than Super DIRT Week. Rare video footage and seldom-seen photographs will trace the Syracuse days back to the days of Barney Oldfield. On Saturday at 3:30, he’ll focus strictly on the 44 year history of SDW.

The famous Bowes Seal Fast USAC Championship car, driven at Syracuse by the late Jud Larson, will also be on display along with a World of Outlaw Sprint Car that made history on the one mile speedway.

Included in the show will be just about everything imaginable in motorsports with more than 600 exhibitor booths offering products and services for the racers along with items of interest for fans including a huge array of collectibles.

Many speedways and sanctioning organizations will be offering information on their events planned for the 2016 season with several using the show to release their schedules.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet many well-known racers including Kyle Larson and personalities at the show and collect autographs FREE.

More than 200 motorsports vehicles representing drag racing, NASCAR Sprint Cup and everything in between including dirt track racers, motorcycles and more will be on display throughout the show. Race teams looking to gain great exposure for their team and sponsors are invited to contact Tim Hogue at 609.888.3618 to have their race car included.

Exhibit space, very limited, remains available and information, including a color show brochure, can be had at motorsports@aarn.com or telephone 609.888.3618.

The very classy Crowne Plaza Valley Forge will serve as the host hotel and will again offer a discounted rate. The hotel is located just 7.5 miles from the Expo Center and is within walking distance of the popular King of Prussia Mall, the nation’s second largest retail complex with over 350 stores and close to 100 restaurants.

Again this year the Saturday night post show gathering will continue and will be held in one of the large ballrooms at the hotel with music by DJ Sound and Lighting and bar specials from show sponsor Miller Lite.
