Coughlin, Manion Excited to Begin Partnership at KBM
DELAWARE, OH – Cody Coughlin is on the brink of a breakout season. In 2016, he joins Kyle Busch Motorsports as a driver in their NASCAR Camping World Truck Series program. As the pieces to the upcoming season come together, the 20-year-old now knows whom his crew chief will be in the KBM stables.
Veteran NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion has been named crew chief for the KBM team that will be shared by both Coughlin and teammate Daniel Suarez. Manion will be the leader atop the pit box for Coughlin in each of his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts this year.
“I know Cody comes from a good family that has produced several successful racers, so he doesn’t have to look very far to see what it takes to make it in this business,” Manion said. “He’s already been able to win a lot of Late Model races and run up front in the ARCA Racing Series. Now it’s my job to make sure he’s able to do the same for his races in the Truck Series this season. I’m really excited to work with him.”
Manion, a native of Bolyston, Massachusetts has many years of experience in all levels of NASCAR. The 43-year-old won the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in 2010 as crew chief for Jamie McMurray. He also directed Martin Truex Jr.’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win.
“I was already really excited for this season to start, but when you add a successful figure in our sport such as Bono to the team it makes you even more excited,” said Coughlin, a Development Driver for Joe Gibbs Racing. “As a young driver, I like to work with people that have confidence in what they do, which in turn gives me more confidence to do what I do. With a good relationship like I believe we will have, I know we can be very successful. Hopefully, the good Lord can bless us with a lot of strong runs and hopefully a couple of wins.
“I’m really thankful that Kyle Busch Motorsports, and my parents (Di and John) are doing everything they can to put me in a position to succeed.”
Cody Coughlin’s exact schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be announced shortly. Coughlin will also compete in several Super Late Model events in the Midwest throughout the year with Team JEGS, which is led by team manager Kevin Hamlin and crew chief Nick Easton.
