Anderson to Race Full Slate of SSS Events in 2016
PENSACOLA, FL — With a win in the Red-Eye 100 at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) less than one month ago, Cole Anderson put his name on the short track racing radar. Now, the Northfield, Minnesota native is hoping to become a household name in the Super Late Model ranks by competing full-time with the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco in 2016.
Anderson has made the decision to take on the challenge of racing with the toughest group of Super Late Model racers in the country and throw his hat into the ring as a potential championship contender next season.
After getting his 2016 season off to such a strong start at New Smyrna driving for Anthony Campi Racing, Anderson has already set a lofty goal for his initial Southern Super Series season.
“The goal is to win the championship in our rookie year,” said Anderson. “That would be the coolest thing, and is definitely our ultimate goal. But I just want to get a couple wins this year.”
The 18-year-old driver hails from Minnesota, but he races often in Florida at New Smyrna Speedway and the home of the Snowball Derby, Five Flags Speedway. Anderson said that he loves to race at Five Flags whenever he can, and that was one reason why he wanted to race full time with the Southern Super Series.
“I know that the Southern Super Series goes to Five Flags Speedway a bunch,” Anderson. That’s my favorite race track and we ran pretty well there at the Snowflake.”
Anderson finished fifth in the 2015 Allen Turner Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model race, and said he believes that he could score a victory at Five Flags in his inaugural SSS season.
Another track that Anderson said he can’t wait to get to sits just an hour west of Five Flags, and that’s Alabama’s Mobile International Speedway.
“I’m looking forward to going to Mobile,” he said. “I’ve heard pretty good things about that. The double-header weekend should be pretty fun.”
Overall, Anderson said he’s thrilled to get his rookie season with the Southern Super Series started. In a sport where momentum is of the upmost important, he believes his race team has what it takes to win races and compete with the best of the best.
“I think it’ll be a good year. I have a pretty good team behind me,” said Anderson. “My team, Anthony Campi Racing, puts a lot of effort into the cars, and they work on them 24/7. We always have a pretty good piece. I’m really excited.”
The 2016 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco season opens on March 18-20 at South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama with the running of The Rattler 250.
