3 Premier Dirt Series and Sportsman Highlight 2016 Schedule
(January 15, 2016) — With the 2016 racing season right around the corner, Weedsport Speedway is putting the final touches on what will sure to be a star-studded, action packed summer of racing. The action kicks off on Sunday, May 22 with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returning for the Empire State Challenge. This event will also include the first round of the 2016 “Sportsman Shootout Series”, which will include a total of 9 sportsman events. The series will maintain a minimum $1,000 payout to the winner and advertises an unprecedented 3 events paying $2,000 or more to win. The 2016 Sportsman Shootout Series will payout the top ten spots and the champion will receive $2,000. More info regarding the Sportsman Shootout Series will be available in the coming weeks.
The gates open again on Sunday, June 5th as the sportsman take center stage for a Sportsman Shootout Series double header. The remaining portion of the 2015 rained out Last Call sportsman event will kick off the night’s festivities, and will be followed by a second sportsman show. The TUSA Mod Lites will also be on the card. On Tuesday, June 21st the World of Outlaws Late Models storm into Weedsport for the second running of the Finger Lakes 40. This will be the only northeast appearance for the WoO Late Models in 2016, so get your tickets early, because you won’t want to miss it!
As the season moves in to July, make your plans now to celebrate Independence Day at the 3rd Annual Sportsman Classic on Monday, July 4th. It’s only $20 a car load to see the northeast’s best sportsman competitors battle it out for the $2,500 winner’s share. Combined with the 600cc Micro Sprints, and a huge fireworks display, this event will surely be the best bang for your family entertainment buck! The action returns in July as the Empire Super Sprints and the Big-Block Modifieds headline Sunday, July 24th.
August brings the best from the past and present to Weedsport as Monday, August 8th kicks off the 2016 Hall of Fame festivities. While yesterday’s greats celebrate Hall of Fame inductions, the big-block teams will be doing final prep for the Hall of Fame 100 on Tuesday, August 9th. This will be the first stop for the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds at the speedway in 2016. The Hall of Fame 100 has become a staple event at the speedway, and with a $10,000 winner’s purse, the best DIRTcar Modified racers in the northeast will be there. The speedway continues to celebrate history on Sunday, August 21st, with the Empire Super Sprints’ “Legend’s Reunion”. For the second year in a row, the winged warriors from the past and present will make Weedsport home the ESS Hall of Fame inductee of 2016 will be honored. The festivities then move trackside as the ESS Sprints, joined by the Sportsman Shootout Series partner for a great night of racing.
The action returns on Saturday and Sunday, September 17th and 18th for an action packed weekend of racing. On Saturday, September 17th, the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds are once again in town for an epic 125 lap tour event. Along with the Sportsman Shootout Series and post-race entertainment, this will be one you want to pencil in! The action continues on Sunday, July 18th, as the Sportsman Shootout Series will crown its champion at the conclusion of the 50 lap finale. The Go Nuclear Late Model Series, as well as the 600cc Micro Sprints are also on the card to close out the weekend.
