Empire Racing Group Shines at Daytona ARCA Test

Empire Racing Group Puts Drivers on Top of the Speed Charts during ARCA Test at Daytona International Speedway

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 19, 2016) – Despite the rainy weather at Daytona International Speedway this past weekend, the Empire Racing Group still secured multiple Top-10 positions on the speed charts during the track’s ARCA Racing test. With Friday being a rainout, the team went on to finish fourth, fifth and sixth on the charts on Saturday. On Sunday, the team continued its hot streak by securing second, third and eighth place on the charts.

“All of our drivers and race cars performed very well throughout the weekend,” said Mike “Grumpy” Cheek, crew chief and general manager of Empire Racing Group and owner of Grumpy’s Performance. “Everyone was very pleased with the results of the weekend, and now our drivers are looking forward to the upcoming race at Daytona.”

With four talented drivers behind the wheels of their race cars, Empire Racing had high expectations for the test and what the team could learn from it. All expectations were met throughout the weekend.

Rookies Dylan Martin and Brett Holmes experienced their first laps ever at Daytona International Speedway and spent their time learning everything they could about drafting on the track.

Racing veterans Dylan Lupton and Sean Corr also participated in the test for the team. Both drivers are familiar with ARCA race cars and were able to use this test session to learn more about how this year’s racing package will handle on the track. All Empire Racing Group drivers were able to experience both single car runs and the draft.

Despite the group’s No. 48 race car ending Sunday’s test session with a blown right rear tire, the entire team finished the final session in the Top-10, giving Empire Racing Group a positive outlook for the ARCA Racing season opener.

“Overall, it was a great weekend for the team,” said Cheek. “Even with all the rain and delays, the team was inspired by the test and is ready for the upcoming race. Everyone learned a lot and was very appreciative of opportunity to get this on-track time with the Empire Racing Group.”

Empire Racing Group will return to Daytona International Speedway for the ARCA Racing season opener on February 13. Sean Corr is confirmed to drive for the team in the Lucas Oil 200. Additional drivers will be announced as the race approaches.
