Matt Covington Gearing Up for 2016 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour – YankeeRacer.com

Matt Covington Gearing Up for 2016 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour

TULSA, Okla. (February 25, 2016) Continuing to build on his success since going back on the road in 2014 with the National Tour, Matt Covington is primed and ready for another run at the title with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Covington, who pilots the Covington Motorsports No. 95 has been behind the wheel since the age of five. Coming up from Quarter Midgets, Covington made his Sprint Car debut in 2008. Since then, Matt has scored four Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour wins, to go along with five ASCS Regional Championship in the former Sooner and Lone Star Regions.

Talking about the offseason, Covington said, “Not much has changed for this year. We do have a new crew guy working for us this year. We hired Lane Goodman, one of Mike Goodman’s boys, and plan on taking him on the whole tour and we’re really glad to have Jerry Graves helping us out again this year. He’s excited for sure, we just need to come up with the results to match.”

While the team will continue to utilize Triple X Racecars and Wesmar Racing Engines, the cars and equipment will have a new trailer to travel in, “We upgraded the trailer, and I bet teams will really want to park next to us because the LED lights on the back of this thing that light up three pit areas,” chuckled Matt.

Hitting his stride in the latter half of the 2015 season, Covington has been working on himself in the off-season to continue that momentum in to the start of the 2016 season.

“It really just comes down to focus for me. I had to think back of what I did differently from the beginning of the year to the end, and it just boils down to focus. I want to start this season like I ended last season, and that’s something I haven’t been very good at, even over the past couple seasons and it’s just a matter of keeping sharp. It takes a top level of focus to go out and compete with these guys, and I think that’ll be the difference maker. There is nothing easy about this.”

The Covington Motorsports team plans to run a couple nights prior to the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour going live on March 11 and 12 at the Creek County Speedway. Currently, his schedule shows stops at the Magnolia Motor Speedway with the USCS followed by the season opening weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints March 4 at the Hattiesburg Speedway and March 5 at the Deep South Speedway.

Matt would like to thank his father, Bill Covington, for the opportunity to again pilot the family No. 95 as well as his sponsors: A-Rock Materials, T&L Foundry, Winters Performance Products, ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment, Simpson Performance Products, Wesmar Racing Engines, Pro Shocks, Factor One Racing, Triple X Race Components, DMI, GME Nields Steerings, Schoenfeld Headers, Brodix, Allstar Performance Products, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Eaton Industrial Coatings, and Hot Rod Powder Coating.
