Adam Norton Off to Strong Start in Thompson’s Sunoco Modified Division
THOMPSON, CT — Sunoco Modified driver Adam Norton saw early season success in Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s (TSMP) top-tier division, after a fourth place finish at the Icebreaker opening weekend in April. A veteran driver from Palmer, MA, Norton has been racing for 24 years, and has multiple championships to his name in dirt bikes, go karts, and Pro Four Modifieds. Although the Sunoco Modified division includes big names this season such as Keith Rocco, Ted Christopher, Ryan Preece and Rowan Pennink, Adam Norton will be looking to make his mark in the highly competitive open-wheel division.
Adam Norton started racing at the age of 7 in hill climbing dirt bikes. At the age of 11, he moved into four wheels, racing go karts for the next 6 years. Once he turned 18, he started his open-wheel career in the Pro Four Modified division, and although occasionally racing Pro Stocks, Mini Sprints, Legend Cars, and the Modified Racing Series tour, has always returned to the Modified divisions. He first moved into the SK Modified (Sunoco Modified) ranks in 2001, in which he’s competed at Thompson the last several years.
During the offseason, Norton and his team put in a lot of work to make the No. 1M car competitive. “I just spent lots of time going through the car and my notes seeing what I could do to make the car better,” said Norton. “Towards the end of last season, we changed motor builders to RAD Auto Machine and over the winter sent the car down to Chassis Dynamics to have two new clips put on it. My goals for the season are to be a consistent top 5 runner every race. We are definitely shooting for a win and hoping to shake off the bad luck from last season.”
Norton attributes much of his racing career success to the support of his parents, as well as his wife, Anne. “I’ve also been lucky to have had lots of great help throughout the years from various crew members, amazing sponsors, and car owners.” In addition to welcoming back LaFleur Cordwood, Barnes Enterprises, American Harley-Davidson, Dennis’s Auto, and Custom Pallets as sponsors, the team also had Webster First Federal Credit Union and Hubies Tavern jump on board for the 2016 season.
Adam Norton will be racing at Thompson next at the Limited Sportsman Long Distance event, presented by Circuit One Events on Wednesday, May 18. Grandstands will open at 4:30PM, qualifying is at 6:30 PM and feature races will follow. To follow Adam Norton, visit the Adam Norton Racing Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AdamNortonRacing.
