New London-Waterford Results 05/28/2016

WATERFORD – Tyler Chadwick was the showcase story of a speedy five event racing card Saturday evening at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Chadwick led every lap of the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature for his first victory since August 8, 2015.

Joe Arena won the 35-lap North East Street Stock Tour feature. Bruce Thomas Jr. won the 30-lap Late Model feature. In the 25-lap Mini Stock feature, it was Chris Ivory winning. Dana DiMatteo won the 25-lap Legends feature.

Chadwick, of Ledyard, led every lap on the way to victory in the SK Modified feature. Dylan Izzo of Monroe, coming off his first career victory on May 21, was second. Joey Gada of Salem was third.

Chadwick started on the pole and Gada stayed with him in second for most of the event before Izzo went to second on a restart with 13 laps left.

By lap 25 Izzo was stalking all over Chadwick’s bumper and for the last seven laps Izzo was searching hard for a way to the front.

A caution flew on the final lap to set up a green-white-checkered showdown, but Izzo couldn’t find the way around Chadwick over the final two circuits.

Thomas, of Groton, scored his 59th career Late Model victory at the track in dominating fashion, leading every lap.

Jason Palmer of Berlin was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.

Matt Carlson started on the pole for the Late Model feature with Thomas to his outside. Thomas quickly went to the lead and then checked out from the field.

Palmer went to second on lap two, with Rocco following to third, but Thomas was able to pull away easily from his pursuers out front in the caution free event.

Ivory, of Oakdale, was involved in multiple side-by-side battles for the lead throughout the Mini Stock feature before securing his first victory of the season.

Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon was second and Brad Caddick of Wyoming, R.I. third.

Jacob Perry went to the lead past Andrew Krzeminski on the first lap. Two laps in Ivory moved past Krzeminski for second with Dave Trudeau moving to third.

With 17 laps remaining Ivory got to the outside of Perry and a lap later Ivory moved to the lead at the line, but there was no relenting from Perry.

Perry stayed to the inside in a side-by-side battle between he and Perry for eight laps, before contact sent Perry spinning off turn four with eight laps remaining.

The race restarted with Cassidy in second behind Ivory. With seven laps left Cassidy was able to take over the lead on the outside but two laps later in the side-by-side battle, Ivory got back out front.

The side-by-side battle out front continued until the final lap when Ivory cleared Cassidy off of turn two and drove to the victory.

Arena, of Bristol, got to the front and had no challenge in the North East Street Stock tour feature.

Speedbowl regular Al Stone III of Durham was second and fellow track regular Chris Meyer of Norwich third.

Corey Hutchings held the top spot in the event early, with Arena stalking him from the start.

On lap 11 Arena was all over Hutchings’ bumper. Two laps later Arena made the pass to take over the lead for good off turn two.

Stone followed Arena into second past Hutchings on lap 13 but never had anything to make a move on Arena out front.

DiMatteo, of Farmington, was able to win going away in the Legends race.

Jake Johnson of Rehoboth, Mass., was second and Michael Rutkoski of Mattituck, N.Y. third.

Johnson went to the lead past Glenn Korner Jr. at the start with Andrew Molleur moving to second two laps into the event.

On a restart with 20 laps remaining Noah Korner moved to second with DiMatteo following him to third place.

With 16 laps left DiMatteo got by Johnson for the lead on the backstretch, but then contact between Johnson and Noah Korner brought out the caution, moving Johnson back out front for the restart.

On the restart, DiMatteo made easy work of getting by Johnson and checking out from the field.
