Matt Lowinski-Loh Climbs Up the Thompson Ladder

THOMPSON, CT — Matt Lowinski-Loh may be a rookie in the Late Model division but he has years of experience under his belt from racing his way up through the ranks at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP). His first two races in a Late Model this season have shown that experience pay off, with Lowinski-Loh earning two top 5 finishes in TSMP’s premier fendered division.

Lowinski-Loh started racing a Quarter Midget in 2004 at the age of 7 at the Little T Speedway until he retired in 2010. In 2011, he faced his biggest hurdle of his racing career when he fell ill. “My racing passion was black flagged when I was diagnosed with a Benign Brain tumor, which was removed in January of 2011, rendering me unable to drive,” said Lowinski-Loh. Although he couldn’t race, he stayed focused on learning and developing his skills in the other aspects of the racing business. “I didn’t let that stop me. I spent countless hours in the garage with my Dad and brother preparing my racecar as a racecar owner and managed a driver for the 2011 race season.”

In 2012, he was back behind the wheel, this time making his debut at the Big T in the Limited Sportsman division. He hasn’t taken his foot off the gas since. He spent three years racing in the Limited Sportsman, making his name as a fierce competitor in the division, and finishing 8th in points his last season in 2015.

This year, Lowinski-Loh moved to TSMP’s Division II, and his debut in an ACT Late Model car at the 2016 Icebreaker, earning him a third place finish, proved he will be a strong contender this season. “My strategy was to dig deep, listen to my spotter, which happened to be my older brother [John], and stay focused,” said Lowinski-Loh. Matt’s older brother, John, is no rookie to racing either. Like his younger brother, John started off racing a Quarter Midget at the Little T, moving up to compete in the ARCA series the last couple of seasons.

Matt Lowinski-Loh will be competing next in tonight’s 3rd Annual Late Model 20/20 Sprint race, looking to capture another top 5 finish in hopes of earning “Rookie of the Year.” The Late Model 20/20 Sprint, is part of Whelen Military Night, presented by King Cadillac GMC, which will honor active duty members with free admission to the races. The gates will open at 4:30PM and racing will begin at 6:30PM. For tickets and more information, pleasevisitwww.thompsonspeedway.com .
