Inaugural season of the Thompson Summer Road Race Series comes to a close on Sunday
As the inaugural season of the Thompson Summer Road Race Series comes to a close on Sunday, August 7, several champions will be crowned in the MSD Legends series, Small Bore and Big Bore classes. This season’s events have seen a wide variety of sports cars take to the track in a unique one-day format that includes a condensed practice, qualifying, and race schedule for competitors.
The Small Bore class has seen Mazda Miatas dominate the field. Currently at the top of the points standings, John Raudat leads by just 3 points over fellow Miata driver, Matthew Chimbolo. Raudat will be looking to cement this lead with a win at Sunday’s event. Although the final roster is still up in the air, according to Raudat, “the competition is always intense at Thompson.”
The Big Bore class has been dominated so far this season by TSMP Driver Club member, Glenn Kurkjian, in his Tool & Equipment Connection 2002 Chevy Corvette. The competition will heat up this Sunday for Kurkjian however, as several new faces are expected to attend, including fellow Club member, Chris Outzen in his Nissan 350Z.
The MSD Legends Series will also take part in their final two races of their 10-race season. Canton, CT native, Noah Korner enters into the event with a sizeable 30-points lead over Jordan O’Brien from Yarmouth, ME. Special bonuses and a $2,500 total purse will be on the line for competitors in the championship event.
