At A Glance: Caution! Men Working!

Series leaps to Labor Day weekend for final PA stint

CONCORD, N.C. – August 31, 2016 – The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series schedule is dwindling – three more shows ramping up to the coveted Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals in Concord, N.C. But in hindsight, Lernerville Speedway’s Working Man weekend presented by GottaRace.com is no less of a show for the series’ regulars.
With a new racing format coupled with an additional day for the first time in the event’s history, the Working Man presented by GottaRace.com offers drivers a hefty payday on one of late model racing’s largest stages. At the famed 4/10-mile oval, the national tour will ultimately compete against other late model greats on Labor Day weekend for a $20,000 purse – twice as much as last year’s amount.
The Outlaws will revisit Lernerville for the second time this season. Though the Outlaws lost the battle at the crown-jeweled Firecracker 100 finale, they have since won 16 out of the last 17 events. Last year’s Rookie of the Year Brandon Overton won an emotional preliminary show during the Firecracker 100 weekend, and he is confident to double-up on his successes September 2-3.

“Maybe we’ll do it again,” said Overton, who captured his first series win of his career then. “Wouldn’t that be nice?”
The Outlaws will then travel east to Selinsgrove Speedway’s 18th Annual Jeff’s Auto Body and Recycling Center Late Model National Open on Sunday, September 4. With a car count that nearly eclipses 40 cars per year, Selinsgrove has established itself as a mainstay for dirt late model racers nationwide.
The track’s crown jewel event will pay $8,000-to-win and $600 to start the 40-lap Craftsman Club® feature. A purse of more than $35,000 has been posted for the series’ only appearance this season in central Pennsylvania.
Rick Eckert, who holds the late model track record of 18.848 established in October 2012, is in his home state for the Outlaws’ final stint in Pennsylvania. With $8,000 on the line at Selinsgrove, $20,000-to-win for the Working Man 75-lap finale and $2,500 payouts for Lernerville’s preliminary shows, Eckert and company will be on a road to riches through Pennsylvania. In comparison, the York, Pa. native was one of the original 12 to start the series in 2004, battling for $1,000 purses at each stop.
