Noah Korner Looking to Capture Third Championship of 2016 Season in Stafford Speedway’s Legend Cars Division
Stafford Springs, CT — For Canton native Noah Korner, the 2016 season has been one for the ages. Korner is currently the National Legend Cars points leader in the Semi-Pro division for both Oval and Road Course standings as well as winning championships at Thompson and Waterford. With three races left, Korner leads Teddy Hodgdon by 6 points in the chase for the Stafford Speedway track title and a third championship in the state of Connecticut with his #31 Midstate Site Development Coupe.
“We’re leading the national points for oval and road course and we’ve won championships at Waterford and on the road course at Thompson,” said Korner. “It’s been an unreal season. We’ve put so much time and effort into this season and it’s really rewarding to see it paying off. If we can win the championship at Stafford, that would be 3 championships for the season and I don’t know if anyone has swept the championships at all three tracks. That would be insane if we can do it but it’s going to be tough because it’s a real close race with Teddy. I have to thank Midstate Site Development, Canton NAPA, Joe Parks with H.O. Penn, and C.J. with 860 Motorsports for all their help and support this season.”
Since the 2016 season at Stafford began, Korner and Hodgdon have had things all their way. The duo has combined to win 7 of the 8 Legend Cars feature events thus far and with only 3 races and 6 points separating them to determine the 2016 champion, Korner says that he can’t afford to be any less aggressive than he’s been all season long.
“We’re still trying to win every race, we just need to take a little extra time for preparation,” said Korner. “The last thing we want to have is a mechanical failure because that would ruin our night and our championship hopes. We both have really good equipment and we’re both really talented drivers. I think it all depends on who gets out front first. When I’m out front, he’s right on my bumper and when he’s out front, I’m right on his bumper. Stafford is a hard track to pass on but it’s great racing between us.”
With the upcoming NAPA Fall Final Weekend feature on Oct. 1 being a National Qualifier event for the Legend Cars, Korner thinks there will be more cars in the field as drivers come to Stafford to get prepared for what he says is one of the toughest tracks to get around for Legend Cars drivers.
“I’m hoping that we’ll have 10 or 15 extra cars for that National Qualifier for the Fall Final,” said Korner. “I think we’re going to see a couple of new drivers this Friday night to try out Stafford because there’s not any track that is like it. Stafford is a paper clip with no banking and it’s an interesting track for sure. It’s certainly a driver’s track. You have to corner hard and brake hard and then make the car stick as it comes off the corner. There’s no banking to help you out and the best comparison I could make is it’s like a paper clip. It takes time and experience to figure the track out to run at the top level and turn the fastest laps.”
