Butler Bags Burlington County Overhead Door News Sprint Feature Win and Championship at New Egypt Speedway
New Egypt, NJ (September 11, 2016) – On Championship Night at New Egypt Speedway, Bobby Butler won his third Burlington County Overhead Door NEWS Sprint feature of the year. The victory enabled Butler to capture the division championship. Steve Davis topped the field in the Sportsman feature as Bob Lineman, Jr. claimed the title. The Crate Modified main event was taken by Ebby Ridge with Brandon Grosso grabbing the championship. Vern McLaughlin took the checkered flag in the Street Stock contest and the 2016 divisional title went to Mick Search.
After taking the lead from Chris Moll on the second tour of the 20-lap Burlington County Overhead Door NEWS Sprint feature, Bobby Butler remained in command to win the feature. In the second half of the contest, Butler successfully repelled several challenges by Moll. The victory was the third of the year for Butler, who captured the division championship for the season. With Moll finishing in second, Wayne Weaver completed the race in third. Fourth went to Johnny Cornell with fifth taken by Heidi Heddin. Lou Cicconi won the Burlington County Overhead Door NEWS Sprint qualifying race.
Sixteenth place starting Steve Davis bested the competition in the 20-lap Sportsman feature. Steve Desmelyk led the opening seven tours before Brandon Grosso inherited the lead when Desmelyk spun following a restart. With seven laps remaining, Davis charged into the runner-up position as he passed Bob Lineman, Jr. Following a restart, Davis gained the lead from Grosso on the fourteenth circuit. Davis led the rest of the way to secure his first New Egypt Speedway win of the season. Lineman, Jr. followed Davis to finish in second place. Matt Stangle crossed the finish line next but was disqualified for a weight infraction. Third place was awarded to Grosso with fourth place going to Marty Resnick. Chuck Potts was placed fifth as Roger Manning failed to meet the minimum weight following the race. With his second place finish, Lineman, Jr. was able to take his second career Sportsman championship at New Egypt Speedway. The Sportsman heat races were won by Alan Bleacher and Desmelyk.
For the first time since 2010, Ebby Ridge visited New Egypt Speedway’s victory lane as he took top honors in the 20-lap Crate Modified race. Ridge took the lead from Jason Bittner on the second revolution and survived several restarts to take the checkered flag. Frank Dorry, Jr. finished in the runner-up spot. A third place finish by Brandon Grosso allowed him to claim the Crate Modified championship. Shawn Ratchford was fourth with Bittner coming home in fifth. Bittner, Aaron Weaver and Ridge were the victors in the Crate Modified heat races.
In the 15-lap Street Stock feature, Vern McLaughlin took the lead while the white flag waved as he captured the first place prize. Mick Search was crowned the division champion after finishing in fifth place. Bill Liedtka paced the field for the opening six circuits before Search took over. Two laps later, title contending John Meyer moved into second place and tried to track down Search. On lap thirteen, a caution period took place and both Search and Meyer went to the pits with flat tires. On the ensuing restart, McLaughlin outgunned Dan Salmons and led the field the rest of the way. Liedtka claimed the runner-up spot. A late surge by Meyer gave him a third place finish with Salmons taking fourth.
