Saturday Night Recap From Sept. 10:
Saturday, the long awaited return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to Seekonk took place and the fans came out in full force.
The grandstands were packed and so was the pit area, and the racing on the track lived up to the moment. In the end, it was Islip, New York driver Timmy Solomito celebrating in Everett’s Auto Parts victory lane. Solomito started sixth, but quickly got to the front of the field and ran in second spot for much of the 150 lap distance. He was chasing defending NWMT champion Doug Coby, who fought hard to try and hold him off, but couldn’t do it by the end.
Solomito used a crossover on lap 114, where he dove to the inside of Coby down the frontstretch and basically shoved him up the track in order to slide by. He was able to come around in the final laps and hold on for the win, his fourth of the season on the NWMT. Solomito has come into his own this season, winning three of the four races on short tracks. He won at Riverhead and Monadnock and now added his name to the list at Seekonk as the winner of the AnytimeRealty.com 150. Congrats to Timmy and the whole No. 16 team on a job well done.
In our regular weekly racing on Saturday night, Mike Cavallaro continued his dominance in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Sports Truck division. Cavallaro got to the lead just before the halfway point as he slid by his teammate Manny Dias. He was able to get out in the clean air and never looked back in route to another win, which was his second straight in the competitive class.
He opened up his points advantage over Chase Belcher, but the driver of the Everett’s Auto Parts No. 81 wasn’t far behind at the finish. Belcher finished in second for the second straight week and is inching closer to returning to victory lane. These two drivers are going to fight hard for the title going down the stretch of the season in the final two weeks and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top and sits at the head table when it’s all set and done.
In the Street Stock division, Corey Fanning held on to win the 25 lap Street Stock feature event, but he did not make it through the post-race technical inspection. That awarded the victory to Tommy Adams behind the wheel of his No. 56. Adams was strong for much of the event and crossed the line second, but was awarded the win after the technical inspection. Of course, he didn’t want to win that way, but you take wins how you can get them!
The Street Stocks continue to put on some of the best racing in New England, with lots of side-by-side battling around the track in each heat race and each feature.
In our Late Model main event, Nick Johnson took his first career win in the No. 6. We have seen a ton of first time winners this season and Nick has been due to capture the checkered flag. His father Tim and the team work extremely hard on the car and the win was well deserved.

Join us for the final three weekends of the season — the final two points weekends and then the annual D.A.V. Fall Classic. This year, the Pro Stocks will run 150 laps instead of 100 and the race will be even more exciting.
