ASCS Red River Headlining Lone Star Shootout at Timberline Speedway
TULSA, Okla. (October 3, 2016) A $2,000 payday awaits the winner of this weekend’s Lone Star Shootout at Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas as the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products invades the high-banked, three-eighths mile on Saturday, October 8.
The only trip of the 2016 season to the Timberline Speedway for the ASCS Red River Region, the series last trip to the far east Texas oval came on October 2, 2015, with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. earning the victory in the inaugural Lone Star Shootout. Previous to Sam’s win, Johnny Herrera parked his No. 45x in Victory Lane on May 22, 2015.
This Saturday’s showdown is the final standalone event for the ASCS Red River Region, who will be paired up with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour for the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals on October 14 and 15 and the Fall Fling at Creek County Speedway on November 4 and 5.
Looking to keep with the theme of variety, a dozen drivers have found victory with the ASCS Red River Region in 2016 in 15 nights of competition across Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas.
Brandon Hanks, who leads ASCS Red River Region points, is tied at the top with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and Wayne Johnson for most wins on the season with two. Hank’s most recent victory came on July 9 at the Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.
Holding a commanding 183 point advantage over 2015 series champion, Kade Morton, the Oklahoma native is still in search of victory in 2016, having a best finish thus far of sixth. Fred Mattox holds third with Jake Greider fourth. The Kansas racer, looks to carry momentum into Texas following a win this past weekend at 81-Speedway in Park City, Kan. Rounding out the top five in tour standing is Mickey Walker.
Chance Morton holds sixth with John Carney II, Jared Sewell, Charles McManus, and Kevin Ramey completing the top-ten.
