GSPSS Drivers Hoping to Collect Bonus Awards at Speedbowl Finale
Over the course of the first nine Granite State Pro Stock Series races in 2016, drivers have been chasing more than $26,000 in contingency awards.
Now, with just one race remaining, some of the season long bonus award winners will be decided at the season finale at New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday, October 22.
Without the help of multiple businesses, the series would just not be able to provide all of the extra incentives. Drivers have been chasing extra cash and awards for just about everywhere in the finishing order during each event.
Whether a driver wins the race or finishes 10th, it is likely they are going to pick up at least a little something extra for their efforts on the track — and that is thanks to more than 13 different businesses that have come on board.
New England based Sunoco Race Fuels has given drivers a little extra incentive in the heat races this season, presenting each heat winner with five gallons of free race fuel for their heat win. It has forced drivers to drive with all their effort in the qualifying action instead of save everything until the main event.
And they haven’t been the only business that has jumped on board and made the heat racing a little bit more exciting. MacLellan Metal Finishing has provided drivers with a check for $25.00 after each heat race win and they will also be providing a $300 check to the driver that wins the most heat races over the course of the year, which is still to be determined.
Currently, DJ Shaw, Derek Griffith and Jeremy Davis each have four heat wins during the course of the season. It will come down to if someone wins a heat at the finale.
As far as the feature racing goes, drivers have had extra incentives all throughout the field. Each driver that has finished second in a feature has been presented a $100.00 gift certificate courtesy of Bond Auto Parts. RB Performance has provided a $50.00 gift certificate to the third and seventh place finisher at each feature event, while Five Star Stock Car Bodies has presented a $50.00 gift certificate to the fifth place finisher in each series feature.
Seymour Performance Products has provided a $100.00 gift certificate for the sixth place finisher each race, while VDL Fuel Systems has given a $100.00 certificate to the fifth place finisher in each event. Coilover Commander has provided a $100.00 gift certificate to the fourth place finisher in each race, while Sherwood Wheels has been kind enough to provide one free wheel to the driver that leads the most laps in each feature event.
As always, Shawn Waddell has been a supporter of the GSPSS all season long. As the official radio provider, Waddell has helped teams solve problems and equipped them with the newest, up-to-date radio technology to get them to the front of the pack.
Even though there is one race left on the calendar, the banquet at the conclusion of the season will see drivers collect all kinds of hardware for their accomplishments.
AR Bodies has come on board to present a $1,000 gift certificate to the Rookie of the Year at the end of the season. Currently, Mike Mitchell leads the rookie standings and is hoping to seal the deal in the final race.
Seymour Performance Products is going to supply a championship helmet to the eventual series champion in 2016. Currently, DJ Shaw leads the point standings over Belchertown, Mass. driver Barry Gray by 20 points.
VDL Fuel Systems has put together a random draw for the banquet and will award the winner of the draw with a free HP650 carburetor.
Much like VDL, Powertrain Technology will have a random draw at the banquet. The drawing will be for a 5.5” 2-disc clutch with Chevy Late Model button flywheel and Hyrdo-Max hydraullic release bearing.
Finally, Embroidery Expertee’s will present one random driver that finishes in the top-10 in the point standings with five sweatshirts and five polo t-shirts. The date of the banquet and venue will be announced in the coming months.
The GSPSS returns to action on October 22, when the 2016 champion will be crowned in a 75 lap, $2,000 to win feature event at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
