FRP Announces VIR Opening Event Format

Salem, NH – Formula Race Promotions (FRP) will kick off the 2017 Atlantic, F2000 and F1600 seasons with a huge spectator event at VIR. The opening weekend for the USAC-sanctioned Championships is now set to run over four days, from Thursday, April 27 through Sunday, April 30.

FRP joins the Pirelli World Challenge, also sanctioned by USAC Racing, at VIR for this major event weekend, with official practice sessions kicking off on Thursday morning. All three FRP Series will roll onto the track on fresh Hoosier Racing rubber.

“Our competitors asked for bigger events in 2017, so we responded by adding three of them,” said Bob Wright and Al Guibord, co-owners of Formula Race Promotions. “We are partnering with Pirelli World Challenge at VIR, SVRA at Indy, and for the season finale with Trans-Am at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Three spectator events rounds out a full seven weekend season of racing with an exceptional amount of total track time.”

The challenging 17-turn VIR course has been a key component of the FRP schedule, having appeared on it every year since the F2000 Championship Series started in 2006.

In 2011, the F1600 Championship made its debut as a pro-level series at VIR, and last year, the F1600 season came to a thrilling conclusion at the Virginia road course in October.

2017 F1600, F2000, Atlantic Schedule:
April 27-30: VIRginia International Raceway
May 12-13: Mid-Ohio
June 8-11: Indianapolis Motor Speedway
June 30-July 2: Mid-Ohio
July 28-July 30: Pittsburgh
