QUALIFYING: Summers Takes Top Spot
Whelen Modified Pole at Myrtle Beach, His First Since 2001
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Rob Summers captured the Coors Light Pole Award on Saturday for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season-opening Performance Plus 150 presented by Safety-Kleen at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
The pole was the seventh career for the Manchester, Conn. driver and the first for him since 2001 at New London-Waterford Speedbowl. Summers put down a fast time of 20.028 seconds (96.705 mph) late in the session behind the wheel of his No. 64 Fastrock Electric Chevrolet for Mike Murphy. He will lead the field to the green flag later this evening.
Donny Lia, making his first start for Tommy Baldwin Racing, was second in the qualifying session. Lia posted a fast time of 20.044 seconds (96.627 mph) behind the wheel of the No. 7 Bardahl Chevrolet.

Rowan Pennink was third (20.050 seconds/96.599), while Max Zachem captured a fourth place starting spot. Shawn Solomito, who was fastest in Saturday’s lone practice session, rounded out the top five in qualifying.
Completing the top 10 in qualifying was David Sapienza, Timmy Solomito, Jeremy Gerstner, Matt Hirschman and Ryan Preece.
The season-opening Performance Plus 150 presented by Safety-Kleen is scheduled to take the green flag at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening and can be seen live on Fanschoice.tv.
