DCRP Season Opener Around the Corner
DODGE CITY, Kan. (March 28, 2017) – It’s nearly time to flip the page of the calendar to April. And that means we’re well into the countdown towards opening night of dirt track racing action that is just over two weeks away at Dodge City Raceway Park.
The 2017 season kicks off at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval on Saturday night, April 15, with a full slate of championship chase action including Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.
The April 15 season opener will go green at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are just $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
It marks the first of a dozen nights of championship chase action at DCRP before closing out the season with the return of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on October 27-28.
The DCRP Sprint Cars and IMCA Modifieds will be in action over all 12 nights of championship chase action with the IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks each getting in ten rounds of competition.
Turpin, Oklahoma’s Taylor Velasquez reigns as defending Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car champion after outdistancing Wichita’s Mike Peters by 50 points for the crown. Nick Link tries to repeat after capturing his first IMCA Modified title in 2016, Kevin Tabor goes after another title after unseating Jeff Kaup in the IMCA Sport Modified ranks, Michael Pepper guns for a third consecutive IMCA Stock Car title and Matt O’Hair defends the IMCA Hobby Stock crown.
The April 15 season opener marks the first of two April events at DCRP with Lewis Automotive Night featuring all five championship chase divisions to follow on Saturday, April 29.
It also begins an action packed-season consisting of 14 overall nights of competition including several specials such as the $3,000-to-win Lewis Automotive DCRP Sprint Car Nationals on June 16-17, the Fifth Annual Modified Stampede on May 6, the Fourth Annual Sport Modified Mayhem on August 19, Driver Appreciation Night on July 28 and the Fifth Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event on September 16 before wrapping it up with the World of Outlaws on October 27-28.
