NASCAR has dropped sanctioning agreements with New London-Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race on July 22 has been canceled.
The series has made 22 visits to the 1/3-mile oval since its inaugural season in 1985. Ron Silk won the most recent race in 2016.
The track’s weekly Saturday program was sanctioned by the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series since 2000. Reigning champion Keith Rocco has found great success in the SK Modifieds with 6 championships. The track’s winningest driver has won the Connecticut championship 9 times and was the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion.
The decision comes after track owner Bruce Bemer was arrested March 28. He has been charged with patronizing a trafficked person. The Glastonbury, CT resident purchased the track in October 2014 at auction.
