PASS Weekend Doubleheader Set for Southern National and Oxford
NAPLES, ME (July 27) – Race fans up and down the Atlantic Seaboard will have the rare opportunity to keep up with the action in both Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model divisions this weekend. It all starts on Saturday night when the PASS South Super Late Models take the track for a 150 lapper at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, NC. Then, on Sunday afternoon, the PASS North stars will be in action at the legendary Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. And, both races could have major impacts on the two nationally televised events on MAV TV coming up later this season.
After struggling through rainouts at Concord Speedway and Southern National, PASS South will see it’s first action this weekend since May. Matt Craig returns to Southern National to defend his win there in March and hoping to extend his lead in the standings. But, only 72 points separate the top five drivers with Tate Fogleman, Kodie Conner, and Dave Farrington, Jr. all hoping to make up ground on Craig. Perhaps more importantly, rookies like Roy Hayes, Sarah Cornett-Ching, Matt Wallace and Eddie Fatcher, along with veterans Jay Fogleman, Deac McCaskill and Jody Measamer, are looking to be one of the top three finishers and lock themselves into the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 in November at Hickory Motor Speedway, paying at least $15,000 to the winner.
On Sunday, PASS North will be back in action for the final series race at Oxford Plains Speedway prior to the 44th Annual Oxford 250, a race that pays in excess of $25,000 to win. The battle for the PASS North championship could not get much tighter with the top six drivers in the standings separated by just 82 points. 4-time PASS North champion, Ben Rowe, reassumed the points lead after the most recent race at Star Speedway, but only leads 2-time Oxford 250 winner, Travis Benjamin, by four points, and 2015 Oxford 250 winner, Glen Luce, by five markers.
Jay, ME’s Dave Farrington, Jr. is the only driver within striking distance of the championships in both divisions. Farrington will join fellow New Englander, Trevor Sanborn, in one of the Woodman Racing entries at Southern National on Saturday. Then, contingent that all of his travel plans stay on schedule, will hurry back to Oxford Plains on Sunday to compete in his family-owned racer.
All in all, it will be a busy weekend indeed as drivers, teams, and officials move through the 2017 season, focused on the big races that are still left to come.
All the action gets under way on Friday afternoon at Southern National Motorsports Park with practice from 4-7 PM. On Saturday, pit gates open at 2 PM, with practice from 4-5:45 PM, the pit party at 7 PM, and racing for the PASS South Super Late Models and MASS Street Stocks beginning at 7:30 PM. On Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway, gates open at 12:30 PM, with practice from 2:30-4:25 PM, and heat races at 5 PM for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, Legends, and Bandits.
