Claremont: Racing Against Cancer Event – August 25

Everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it has been a family member, friend, co-worker, or even ourselves, each one of us has in some way felt the impact this disease has on our society. For the second year in a row, Claremont Speedway has tried to do its part to help defeat cancer with its Race Against Cancer Event.

On August 25, 53 race teams throughout the four weekly racing divisions raised funds for the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. With feature event starting positions determined by fundraising totals, drivers solicited donations from sponsors, friends, families, and race fans for over a month prior to the event.

In an on-track ceremony prior to the night’s races, all drivers in attendance presented the Friends of NCCC a check for $ 15,500 to assist them with their mission. “This event is one the race teams look forward to the most,” said Toby Batchelder, event coordinator. “To many of our competitors, this is personal as we have several drivers who currently have family members fighting cancer. Claremont Speedway and its race teams are proud to contribute,” continued Batchelder.

Samantha Stoddard (# 82 Wildcat) was the top fundraiser while Dana Smith (Mods), Jack McClay (Supers), and Joe Tetreault (LS) all secured the pole in their feature event.

Claremont Speedway is located at 282 Thrasher Road in Claremont and operates Friday nights from late April to the end of September. In operation since 1947, Claremont Speedway has provided family-friendly entertainment for generations. Visit www.claremontspeedway.net or like us on Facebook for more information.
