Matt Mead Continues to Impress with Top Three Finish at New Smyrna
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL (Oct. 9, 2017) – Coming off of a win two weeks ago, Matt Mead once again went to New Smyrna Speedway to compete in the No. 81 Anthony Campi Racing Toyota. After 50 laps of competition, he backed up his win from two weeks ago with a solid podium finish, placing third at the checkered flag.
Mead and the ACR team unloaded on Friday to test on the hotter, slicker surface that more closely resembled a midsummer raceday at New Smyrna as opposed to early fall. Mead once again was up to speed and the team worked on a handful of tweaks to improve that speed during the day.
By race time, Mead began to plot his course through the larger field, methodically assessing his opponents and setting them up as the laps clicked off. As the race aged towards its conclusion, restarts came more often due to accidents, and Mead was able to make a handful of late-race moves when they counted, ultimately finishing third in his sixth career late model event.
“Things went pretty good this weekend, but I felt like tonight’s track conditions made it a little tougher for me with my driving style because it was a bit slicker. We fought hard to the end and still ended up third. The heat and humidity made everyone need to put more wheel into the car to get it rotated mid-corner, something I’m not completely used to just yet. Still, we achieved our goal of a top three finish and I’m proud of the ACR guys and their effort, plus our result for the weekend.”
Matt’s next race with Anthony Campi Racing’s pro late model team is at the end of this month on October 28, where he will once again compete at New Smyrna Speedway in a pro late model as part of a full program of racing featuring both pro and super late models.
