The Money Is In; Kyle Larson Enters Clash at the Creek at Mountain Creek Speedway
CATAWBA, NC (May 14, 2018) – The stakes have been raised for the inaugural Clash at the Creek as Kyle “Yung Money” Larson has placed his bet on the table with an official entry to the event held in Catawba County, North Carolina. Larson currently pilots the No. 42 DC Solar Chevrolet in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for Chip Ganassi Racing and is an avid outlaw kart racer in his spare time.
Before Larson graduated to prominence in open-wheel circles, he learned his racecraft in an outlaw kart near his home in California, a hotbed for outlaw kart racing. Boasting a similar horsepower to weight ratio as a 360 sprint car, one of the most popular types of dirt racecars in the country, outlaw karts prepared Larson for the high-stakes events he dominated during his dirt career like the Four Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway in Ohio.
Larson is one of many NASCAR drivers leading the charge to engage local fans in more amateur racing events near their homes, whether those facilities be dirt of pavement. He currently owns a car in the Craftsman World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and will be fielding a second kart during the Clash at the Creek for driver Colby Copeland, a friend and fellow competitor who also races winged sprint cars.
“I’ve heard lots of good things about Mountain Creek Speedway and am excited to make my first trip during the Clash at the Creek,” said Larson who will be driving the No. 1K Stock Car Steel / SRI QRC kart. “Outlaw karts are what I cut my teeth in, so I enjoy running any big races that I can like this.”
Larson is likely the most recognizable name now on the entry list for the Inaugural Clash at the Creek scheduled to take place at Mountain Creek Speedway. Located off of NC-150 and Little Mountain Road in Catawba, NC, the track has recently risen to prominence with the announcement of the Clash, now one of the most anticipated outlaw kart races of the year. Modeled in dirt after the nearby Hickory Motor Speedway, it presents one of the most formidable challenges to racers who compete on its surface.
The Clash at the Creek runs May 20-21, the days immediately following the NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Each ticket to the event doubles as a pit pass where fans are encouraged to roam to meet their favorite drivers and learn about the sport of outlaw kart racing. Additional NASCAR and NASCAR-related personalities are expected to be in attendance including driver of the No. 3 kart, Karsyn Elledge, the niece of recently retired NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Action for the inaugural Clash at the Creek kicks off on Sunday afternoon, May 20, with beginner and box stock racing programs featuring the younger generation of racers. Open and intermediate drivers will also have track time during open practice sessions to assist them in getting acquainted with the facility. On Monday evening, the full racing program will swing into high gear for intermediate and open drivers with qualifications, heat racing and feature contests set to roll off that night.
While admission tickets are only $20 for the entire weekend, displaced fans across the globe will be able to watch the event LIVE through a broadcast by Pit Row TV.
