6 Speed2 Midget Races Slated in 4 Series this Weekend
Six USAC Speed2 Midget events are slated this week, with activity occurring in the Midwest Thunder, Eastern, Western and DMA series.
Friday action includes the Western US Dirt series at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif., the “Open Wheel Madness” Midwest Thunder series at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway and the Eastern Speed2 Midgets are at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C.
Saturday brings the “Dad’s 4 by Tool & Supply Night VT Foodbank Benefit” DMA race at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt., the “Paul Ring Memorial” Eastern race at Orange County Speedway in Durham, N.C. and the Midwest Thunder race at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway.
Series point leaders entering this week’s events are Jessica Bean (Eastern), Chase McDermand (Midwest Thunder), Adam Lemke (Western) and Jason Goff (DMA).
Andy Baugh of Mason City, Ill. led all 20 laps of Saturday night’s Engler USAC IMRA Speed2 Midget feature at Spoon River Speedway. Trailing in the official order of finish were Robby McQuinn, Shane Morgan, Blake Buchholz and Jake Sollenberger. Baugh is the new series point leader entering a May 27 race at Spoon River.
Sam Hatfield of Mooresville, N.C. passed Jake Trainor on lap 31 and led the final five laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Eastern Speed2 Midget race at Shenandoah Speedway. Trainor finished second ahead of series point leader Jessica Bean, Neal Allison and Nolan Allison.
