2018 Seekonk Nick’s Pit Stop Legends: Gluchacki a Favorite for Title Run
As the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars get set for a new year, there are plenty of challengers who look to be capable of carrying the championship trophy.
At the top of the list is defending division champion Joseph Marfeo, who captured his first title last year in dominant fashion. Although Marfeo only went to Victory Lane one time, he was a master of consistency, scoring a top-10 finish in all but one feature event en route to his appearance at the head table.
And although Marfeo is entered for the 2018 season, Derek Gluchacki is one of the upcoming Legends drivers who is going to attempt to take the throne. Gluchacki won three times in 12 points races last year, and he also captured the victory in the season-ending Legends race as part of the Haunted Hundred modified race. He will need to put together a little bit more consistency, but after finishing third last year, he is definitely capable of winning additional races and making a run at the crown.
Behind him, there is a large group of challengers who are going to be fighting for their own glory this season. Jesse “The Mop” Jakubajtys finds himself back for another year coming off one of his best campaigns of his career. He finished second in the title chase last year, and if it wasn’t for some late-season misfortune, he probably would have been fighting Marfeo right down to the final checkered flag in his No. 44.
Names like Josh Parsons, Brandon Martinez and Shileigh Martinez have each proven they can visit Victory Lane as well. And, as always, there are going to be plenty of new drivers entering the class this year. Former Seekonk Youth Racing Association driver Zack Martinez has entered a Legends Car, along with Mason Levesque and RJ Marcotte, two additional graduates of the SYRA ranks.
Defending Bandolero champion Mason Tessier is moving up to the Legends Cars, and he’s joined by returning drivers like Brendon Hammann, Jessica Oleary and Reagan Parent. At the end of last year, Parent made a charge to the front of the pack and scored a few solid top-10 finishes. As he comes back for a new year, watch for him to contend for his first victory.
With the INEX sanction on the division, there is always a chance for outsiders to make the trip to Seekonk for Friday night competition.
The 2018 Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars season will get underway on Friday, June 1, as part of the Fast Friday night opener.
