Midget Roundup for McIntosh After Pair of Sprint Car Top Tens

BIXBY, Okla. (May 24, 2018) – It’s back to Midget racing action this weekend for Cannon McIntosh after posting a pair of top-ten finishes in American Sprint Car Series competition last weekend.

This weekend will find McIntosh and the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget team in the POWRi West “Midget Roundup” at Garden City, Kansas’ Airport Raceway with racing action set for 7:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s a fun track, it’s a good little bullring,” McIntosh says of the 1/5-mile clay oval where he posted finishes of fourth and eighth in last year’s Midget Roundup.

Last weekend, 15-year-old McIntosh competed in just his third and fourth career winged Sprint Car races by tackling the ASCS Red River Region in a pair of Sooner State events at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa and Lawton Speedway.

And the young gun made the most of the weekend, climbing a handful of positions to capture an eighth place finish at Creek County Speedway and then earning his first Sprint Car podium finish by racing to third at Lawton Speedway.

On Friday night at Creek County Speedway, McIntosh climbed to fifth with a last-lap pass in his heat race to earn the 13th starting position in the feature before racing to eighth by the time the final checkered flag of the night flew.

“I fell back at the start and was looking around for something,” McIntosh said of the Creek County feature. “Then I saw Blake Hahn was fast up top, so I moved up there and got going pretty good. It was a good learning deal.”

McIntosh and crew braved less than ideal weather conditions at Lawton Speedway on Saturday night and were rewarded with a third-place finish by night’s end.

“We weren’t very good off the bat,” McIntosh recalls. “But then I found something. I started slowing down and rolling the bottom instead of slinging it in there like the Midget and that really got us a lot faster.”

McIntosh will look for another pair of strong finishes in southwest Kansas at this weekend’s Midget Roundup at Airport Raceway. He enters the weekend ranked second in POWRi West Midget League points despite missing out on one event.

Along with RL Hudson and Toyota-TRD, other marketing partners making the ambitious 2018 slate of events possible includes American Discount, Complete Auto Care, Best Graphics, Fieldhouse Gear, Precision Inspection, Sanders and Associates, Panels by Smoke, Walker Performance, Sanders Wheels, American Discount Brake and Muffler, D&N Fabrication and Car and Fleet.

2018 Quick Stats: 11 races, 3 top-fives, 7 top-tens.

Up Next: POWRi West Midget League at Airport Raceway in Garden City, KS, on Saturday and Sunday.
