Sprint Car Clash Headlines DCRP Championship Round Three on Saturday

DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 25, 2018) – There have been plenty of showdowns in the southwest Kansas town of Dodge City over the years.

Another one is about to take place on Saturday night, as the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars square off with the United Rebel Sprint Series atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

This Sprint Car Clash will mark the third round of championship chase action at Dodge City Raceway Park with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks battling for valuable points as well.

Brian Herbert, R.C. Whitwell, Jeff Kaup, Ron Hartman and Duane Wahrman sit atop their respective point charts going into Saturday’s action that fires off at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for Saturday’s action are just $20 for adults while children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars:

Brian Herbert was less than a handful of laps of starting the season two-for-two at DCRP, but 2015 track champ Luke Cranston spoiled that with a late move to win last weekend’s feature. Hometown shoe Herbert still holds the early advantage by 13 points over Goddard’s J.D. Johnson, who has posted a pair of third-place finishes, with Jetmore’s Ray Seemann another two points back in third. Two-time and defending champ Taylor Velasquez slid to eighth in points after a wild flip in last week’s heat race action.

Driving a second Jesse Hoskins entry, Arizona’s R.C. Whitwell has finished in the runner-up position in the opening two rounds of competition behind opening night winner Kevin Gray and Modified Stampede victor Brendon Gemmill. It’s good enough to have him atop the points by 32 points over Gray with a virtual logjam in points beyond that including the likes of Beavers, Nusser, Lunow, Lane, Heger, Kirchoff and 2016 champ Link among others.

Clinton, Oklahoma’s Robert Elliott dropped in last weekend to deny four-time and defending track champ Jeff Kaup a second consecutive win. Kaup still holds the early lead by 16 points over Brian May with Bart Baker and sibling duo of Kyle and Alex Wiens also among the top five.

The title chase doesn’t get much closer with Ulysses’ shoe Ron Hartman holding a meager one-point lead over Dusty Witthuhn after the opening two nights of action. Shannon Maughlin is just another six points back with Ondre Rexford and Travis Baird knotted for fourth.

Pratt’s Duane Wahrman stands out as the driver with the hottest hand at DCRP after topping the opening two rounds of action following a win in last year’s season finale. Wahrman has been chased to the stripe by defending track champ Reagan Sellard two weeks in a row with Dan Rogers third in both races as well to make for identical podiums.
