Reno & Harrison Nab Key Victories at Wiscasset Speedway

The names Reno and Harrison are names that fans are used to hearing at tracks throughout southern & central Maine, especially Wiscasset Speedway. Third generation racer Nick Reno and second generation driver Michael Harrison each picked up key victories Saturday night, further cementing their family legacy is the history of Maine’s fastest track. Harrison picked up his first career Super Street win in the 25 lap feature for the Maxwell’s Market Super Streets. It’s a division in which his father Kenny Harrison built a championship resume, winning races over a 20+ year career on tracks around the state. Michael Harrison held off veterans Sean Johnson and Mike Hodgkins to secure the victory. West Bath’s Nick Reno, the son of former champion Steve Reno and grandson of Maine racing Hall of Famer Lawrence Reno, picked up his first career Pro Stock win in a hotly contested 40 lap race for the Serv Pro of Biddeford Saco Pro Stocks. Reno battled his way up from mid-pack and traded the lead back & forth with Palmyra’s Ajay Picard in a race that saw several key restarts over the final 10 laps. Both young drivers have already had their own success, with Harrison winning the Thunder 4 Mini title in 2016 and Reno winning multiple features in support divisions over the past decade, including two modified wins this season. However, the victories Saturday night had special meaning to both families. “I watched my dad win in these Super Streets & Sportsman cars for years,” said Harrison, “All I’ve wanted to do is drive one of these cars myself and win races like he did”. Other winners on the program Saturday night included Zach Audet of Skowhegan in the Thunder 4 Mini 35 lap feature, Jeff Prindall in the 25 lap contest for the Cahill Tire 4-cylinder Pros, and Matthew Bourgoine of Stetson in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends 25 lap feature.

Wiscasset Speedway returns to action Saturday, July 21st with the track’s 49th Birthday celebration. Fans will be treated to action in Group 2 divisions, including Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Model Sportsman, Norms Used Cars Strictly Streets, K&A Property Services Modifieds, and Kennebec Equipment Rental Outlaw Minis. The Senior Tour Auto Racers (S.T.A.R.Tour) will be making its annual trek to Wiscasset as the program’s Flex division. Also, there will be an appearance of a pair of Super Modifieds from the new 350 SMAC Super Modified Tour in advance of their historic race coming on August 11th. As usual, with Wiscasset’s annual Birthday celebration, the show will wrap up with a huge fireworks display.
