Doyle Brings it for Enduro 200 Win
Martin Remains Perfect in Twin State Series
Barre, VT – Rochester’s Danny Doyle earned the biggest racing-related prize of his career by capturing the 34th Bolduc Metal Recycling Enduro 200 at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, August 5. Doyle topped a field of nearly 100 entries to claim “The People’s Race” and the $3,000 top prize.
The Bear Ridge Speedway regular was fast from the drop of the green flag, running with the leaders early and finding his way to the top spot around the 2/3-mark of the 200-lap endurance event. From there, Doyle steadily maintained his pace while other contenders fell by the wayside. At one point, Doyle was several laps ahead of his nearest competition.
St. Alban’s Richie Turner made a charge in the closing stages, eventually cutting the deficit to one lap. But that was as close as anyone could come. Doyle would dodge a major bullet when a pile-up happened right in front of him in turn one and cruised to the win.
Dennis Perry finished third followed by Bill Davis and Brandon Lawrence. Robert Terry III, Sean Ford, Brent Jarvis, Brian Ouellette, and Kyle Morris rounded out the unofficial top-10. The full results will be posted on the Thunder Road website.
As always, the event featured a number of hard crashes and narrow misses. The one rollover occurred when Louis Bunnell went sailing off the top of turn 3. Undeterred, Bunnell requested the safety crew flip his car back over. He then returned to the carnage, unofficially finishing 11th.
In the Twin State Street Stock Series event for the Allen Lumber Street Stocks, Barre’s Jeffrey Martin remained perfect by being in the right place at the right time. Wolcott’s Jamie Davis earned the pole for the 50-lap event using the “plus-minus” qualifying system and led the early stages. Williamtown’s Tommy “Thunder” Smith worked his way around Davis for the top spot in lapped traffic on lap 32, but was unable to escape from a pack that also included Gary Mullen, Jeffrey Martin, and Stephen Martin.
As the field approached the lapped car of Dylan Haskins on their final trip down the backstretch, Davis dove up the middle to make it 3-wide in a bid for the win. All three cars then tangled entering turn three.
Smith and Haskins went around in the incident while Davis was declared involved for the initial contact. While Mullen was initially declared the winner on the track, a scoring recheck later determined that Jeffrey Martin had actually won, making him 3-for-3 in the 4-race series.
Mullen ended up second followed by Stephen Martin in third and Kasey Beattie in fourth. Dean Switser Jr. inherited the fifth spot after track point leader Matthew Smith was disqualified for an engine height violation. Tim Hunt, Tyler Pepin, Will Hennequin, Jacob Roy, and Bryan P. Wall rounded out the top-10. All results are unofficial pending further technical inspection.
Thunder Road returns to Thursday night action on August 9 at 7:00pm with Cody Chevrolet Cadillac Night. The Myers Containers Service Triple Crown finale for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers will crown the year’s first champion in a special 75-lap event. The evening will also feature the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models and Allen Lumber Street Stocks plus a ceremony honoring Olympic gold medalist and Montpelier native Amanda Pelkey. Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).
