Ryan Christian Doubles Up
Wins Both Sportsman Modified and Late Model Features
After two consecutive rainouts, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series was back in action Friday night where Ryan Christian was victorious in both the Peanut’s Auto Modifieds and the Homestead Creations Late Model Sportsman with Marcus Jeness coming out on top of the Rand’s Hardware Mini Stocks for his first victory of the season. The Sprint Cars of New England were also on hand with Matt Hoyt taking the win and Sean Beinhaur winning the 500cc Mini Sprint Invitational.
The Peanut’s Auto Sportsman Modified Main event started with two cautions before a single lap was complete but once the race got rolling it went green the rest of the way. After the cautions Ryan Christian jumped into the lead with Ricky Sanville settling into second. The big benefactor of the early cautions was TC Forward who started eighth on the field but claimed third by lap three. As the laps rapidly clicked off Ryan Christian continued to build his lead, going on to take a dominating win, his second of the season. Ricky Sanville was second with TC Forward third. Todd Buckwold and Jeff Huntington completed the top five.
The Feature for the Homestead Creations Late Model Sportsman was also a Twin State Series event making for an action packed race. Just like the Modifieds the Late Models had a couple of cautions before the race got rolling but once it did it was once again the Ryan Christian show as Christian took the lead early with Matt Pike claiming second. Caution flew again on lap nine for the Russ Coutu machine who stopped at the exit of turn four. When racing resumed Christian once again jumped out to a commanding lead with Travis Smith working his way past Pike to claim second. While the caution flew a couple of more times the top three remained the same the rest of the event with Ryan Christian taking his second dominating win of the night. Travis Smith was second with current points’ leader Matt Pike third. Russ Coutu and Scott Heath rounded out the top five.
Marcus Jeness took advantage of his front row starting spot in the Rand’s Hardware Mini Stock Main Event to bolt into the lead before the pack reached the first turn. Jonathan Baker claimed second with Mike McClay third early in the event. Perennial frontrunner Jacob Brown was on the move though, taking third from McClay on lap five and blasting by Baker to take second just a lap later. Erin Aiken moved to third on lap seven dropping Baker to fourth. The only caution of the race occurred with nine laps in the books but did nothing to change the top three as they stayed the same the remainder of the event. At the checkers it was Marcus Jeness taking his first win of the season with Jacob Brown second and Erin Aiken third, David Flanders was fourth with Kevin LaForest fifth.
The Sprint Cars of New England were also on hand with Will Hull claiming the lead at the drop of the green and running away from the field. Things tightened up when the caution came out for a two-car tangle on the backstretch. When the green flew again Hull once again took a commanding lead, only to see his throttle break five laps later, causing another caution. Matt Hoyt inherited the lead and led the rest of the way to take the win. Lacey Hanson was second with Jake Williams third. Will Hull came back to finish fourth with Dennis McLeod fifth.
A 500cc Mini Sprint invitational found Sean Beinhaur take the win with Robert Griffin second and Tom Chaffee third.
