Saturday Portion of Octoberfest Karting Canceled, One Day Show Set for Sunday
All Prelim and A-Mains to be Completed on Sunday, Including NYS Invitational!
WEEDSPORT, NY (October 12, 2018) – The Saturday portion of Weedsport Kartway’s Octoberfest at the Port has been canceled due to forecasted wet weather and frigid temperatures. The Sunday portion of the program is still on, with pit gates opening at 8 a.m.
“We have been keeping an eye on the forecast for Saturday and the rain still appears to be lingering into the early afternoon,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “Even if the rain ends earlier, the temperatures are not forecasted to get out of the 40’s, making for a very uncomfortable day for families in attendance. Sunday’s forecast shows low 60’s and sunshine, so we decided to get ahead of the situation, give folks time to plan and prepare and look to enjoy a one day show on Sunday.”
One day pit passes will be available on Sunday for $20. Driver entry included pit pass. Spectator admission will be free in the main grandstand. All race teams are reminded to enter the pits from Towpath Rd.
Hauler parking will be open on Saturday from Noon to 6 p.m. for those interested.
Sunday’s racing will feature all planned weekend action, with the exception of the Saturday A-Qualifiers, which have been canceled.
All divisions including Jr. Red Clone, Jr. Purple Clone, Jr. Blue Clone, Jr. Unrestricted, Clone Light, Clone Heavy, Clone Super Heavy, and Winged Champ will compete. In fact, Red Clone and Purple Clone will complete both of their scheduled feature events on Sunday.
All other divisions will look to qualify for both Prelim Features and Octoberfest A-Mains.
After pit gates open at 8 a.m. a driver’s meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. with one round of controlled practice beginning at 11 a.m. Following practice, time trials will begin.
Time trials will be three laps in distance for all divisions with the fastest lap counting toward Octoberfest A-Main starting positions and the second fastest lap counting toward Prelim Feature starting positions. Jr. Red Clone and Jr. Purple Clone will also time trial once, with the fastest lap counting toward their second feature and their second fastest lap counting toward the first feature.
Following time trials, B-Mains will be run as needed followed by Prelim Features, Jr. Purple and Jr. Red Features and then finally the Octoberfest A-Mains.
The NYS Invitational for Clone Heavy drivers will also be included in the day, with their feature starting spots determined by a blind draw.
A full listing of event details is available below.
Junior division competitors should be prepared to show proof of age.
Any questions can be e-mailed to kartway@weedsportspeedway.com.
Camping will be available throughout the weekend.
