Attica Raceway Park Wraps Up 30th Anniversary Season at Gala Banquet

ATTICA, Ohio – Attica Raceway Park wrapped up its 30th anniversary season Saturday, Nov. 10 at a gala banquet, rewarding the top 10 in points in the Callie’s Performance Center 410 Sprints, Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Models and Fremont Fence 305 Sprints.

Nearly $47,000 in point fund money was distributed among the three divisions and Attica promoter John Bores thanked all the business partners who help make that possible. Bores noted the 2019 season, which begins in late March, will be similar to the past year with the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Cars coming back for the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic Presented by Racing Optics along with several stops by the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions. Bores noted improvements are on-going around the track and new dirt has been added.

Director of Operations Rex LeJeune also thanked all the track employees and noted Bores had just completed his 13th season as Attica Promoter and thanked him on behalf of the fans and race teams for his dedication to the sport.

Gibsonburg, Ohio’s Stuart Brubaker claimed his first ever 410 track title in 2018. Attica’s 2008 305 sprint track champion, Brubaker competed in 11 of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018, missing only an All-Star show on June 15 and the World of Outlaws event on July 10. He started the year strong, winning on opening night, April 14, and again on May 18 to run his career victory total to seven at Attica. He recorded four top five finishes and nine top 10 runs. Brubaker’s average A-main finishing position was eighth.

Ashland, Ohio’s Ryan Markham claimed his first ever Attica late model title in 2018. One of two drivers to compete in all 12 A-mains in 2018, Markham, who also claimed his third Attica-Wayne County Challenge Series title, also won the 2018 Wayne County Speedway Championship. His first Attica title came about with consistency as he earned seven top five finishes and 11 top 10 runs. In fact, Markham’s only finish outside the top 10 in 2018 was a 13th during the American Ethanol Series event on May 11. Markham scored his 14th career Attica late model win on June 15 as he sits tied for third on the track’s all-time win list. Markham’s average A-main finishing position was fifth.

Fremont, Ohio’s Paul Weaver wrapped up his fourth 305 sprint title at Attica which is also his third straight championship at the track. The two-time JLH General Contractor FAST 305 champion competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018, never finishing out of the top nine. He recorded seven top three finishes including five wins, three of which were the final events of the season, running his career total to 48 in the division to sit atop the all-time win list. Weaver’s average A-main finishing position was fourth.

Following are the remaining top 10 in points and rookies of the year for each division:

Callie’s Performance Products 410 Sprints:

Rookie of the year: Kelsey Ivy, Fremont, Ohio. Ivy competed finished 16th in points and had a season-best finish of 13th on June 1.

10. Travis Philo, Waterville, Ohio. Philo came on strong toward the end of the year, scoring back-to-back wins on July 27 and Aug. 24 to run his career total to four at Attica. He competed in 10 of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018 compiling three top five and six top 10 finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

9. Jess Stiger, Sycamore, Ohio. Stiger competed in seven of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018, recording a season-best 10th place finish on May 18. His average A-main finishing position was 14th.

8. Tyler Gunn, Napoleon, Ohio. Gunn competed in seven of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018, recording a season-best fourth place finish on July 27 to go with three top 10 finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 11th.

7. Chris Andrews, Sandusky, Ohio. Attica’s 2009 and 2017 track champion competed in nine of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018. He racked up three top five finishes including a season-best runner-up on July 27. He scored five top 10 finishes as well. Andrews’ average A-main finishing position was 12th.

6. Jordan Ryan, Castalia, Ohio. The 2018 Wayne County Speedway track champion and 2014 and 2015 Attica 305 sprint champion competed in seven of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018. He recorded four top 10 finishes including a season-best third on May 18. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

5. DJ Foos, Fremont, Ohio. The 2017 FAST Champion and 2010 Attica 305 champion competed in 10 of the possible 13 A-mains in 2018. He recorded a pair of top five finishes including a season-best second on May 18 to go with five top 10 runs. His average A-main finishing position was 11th.

4. Cap Henry, Republic, Ohio. Henry competed in 11 of 13 possible A-mains in 2018, missing only the All Star event on April 20 and the July 27 FAST event. He recorded six top-five finishes including his fifth career 410 win at Attica on June 1. He scored nine top 10 finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 7th.

3. Craig Mintz, Gibsonburg, Ohio. The three-time FAST champion and 2012 and 2013 Attica 410 champion competed in 10 of the possible 13 A-mains in 2018. He recorded six top five finishes including three third-place finishes and a season-best second on Aug. 24. He raced to eight top 10 finishes and had an average A-main finishing position of seventh.

2. Byron Reed, Monclova, Ohio. A four-time FAST champion and eight-time Attica track champion competed in 11 of the 13 possible A-mains in 2018, missing only the World of Outlaw event and last race of the year. Reed racked up six top five finishes including a pair of seconds and his 39th career win at Attica on May 4. He scored eight top 10 finishes and had an average A-main finishing position of seventh.

Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Models

Rookie of the year: Dustin Keegan, Fremont, Ohio. Attica’s 2013 dirt truck champion competed in seven of the 12 possible A-mains in 2018, recording a season-best 11th on June 15. His average A-main finishing position was 14th. He finished 11th in the 2018 point standings.

10. Doug Baird, Alvada, Ohio. Baird competed in eight of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, recording a season-best 12th on June 30. His average A-main finishing position was 14th.

9. Nate Potts, Republic, Ohio. Potts competed in nine of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, recording a season-best sixth on May 25. His average A-main finishing position was 15th.

8. John Mayes Jr., Clyde, Ohio. Mayes competed in 10 of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, missing only opening night and the American Ethanol Series event. He scored four top 10 finishes including a season-best sixth on July 6. His average A-main finishing position was 13th.

7. Mike Bores, Bellevue, Ohio. Bores competed in 10 of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, missing only the April 20 and May 25 shows. He scored seven top 10 finishes with a season-best runner-up on June 1. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

6. Jeff Warnick, Republic, Ohio. Attica’s 2017 rookie of the year competed in 10 of the possible 12 A-mains, missing only opening night and the American Ethanol Series event. He scored four top 10 finishes including a season-best seventh on May 18. His average A-main finishing position was 11th.

5. Dan Wallace, Toledo, Ohio. Wallace competed in 11 of the 12 A-mains, missing only opening night. He compiled three top five finishes including a season-best third on June 1. He scored eight top 10 finishes and his average A-main finishing position was ninth.

4. Devin Shiels, Britton, Michigan. Attica’s 2017 late model champion and the 2018 champion at Oakshade Raceway competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018. He started the year strong, finishing no worse than eighth through June 15, including wins on May 18 and June 1 to run his career total at Attica to five. Shiels racked up seven top five finishes and 10 top 10 runs. His average A-main finishing position was sixth.

3. Steve Kester, Holland, Ohio. Kester competed in 11 of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, missing only the American Ethanol Series event. He recorded seven top five finishes including his second career Attica win on May 25. He recorded 10 top 10 finishes; his worst finish of the year a 20th on April 20. His average A-main finishing position was sixth.

2. Ryan Missler, Bellevue, Ohio. A five-time Attica late model champion and the 2018 Attica-Oakshade Challenge Series champion, Missler competed in 11 of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, missing only the American Ethanol Series event. Missler racked up seven top five finishes including back-to-back wins on June 30 and July 6 to run his career total to 13th, ranking him fifth on Attica’s all-time win list. In fact, Missler never finished outside the top seven other than a 16th place finish on June 15; a double point night. His average A-main finishing position was fifth.

Fremont Fence 305 sprints:

10. Jamie Miller, Fremont, Ohio. The 2018 FAST champion and 2005 Attica 305 champion competed in 10 of the possible 12 A-mains in 2018, missing the first two events of the year. He scored eight top five finishes and nine top 10 runs. In fact, his only finish out of the top 10 was an 18th on the last race of the year. Miller scored back-to-back wins on June 1 and June 30 to run his career total to run his career total to 19 to move to fifth in the track’s all-time 305 win list. He also recorded four runner-ups finished and his average A-main finishing position was fourth.

9. Jason Keckler, Fremont, Ohio. Keckler competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018. He recorded five top 10 finishes with a season-best pair of eighth place runs. His average A-main finishing position was 12th.

8. Kyle Peters, Mansfield, Ohio. Peters competed in 10 of the possible 12 A-mains, missing only the May 25 and Sept. 1 events. He scored seven top 10 finishes with a season-best second on June 30. His average A-main finishing position of 10th.

7. Seth Schneider, Fremont, Ohio. Schneider competed in nine out of the possible 12 A-mains, recording five top 10 finishes including a season-best third on July 27. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

6. Bobby Clark, Fremont, Ohio. Clark competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018, recording five top five finishes and nine top 10 runs. He scored wins on April 14 and May 25 to run his career total at Attica to 23, placing him third on the all-time win list. Clark’s average A-main finishing position was eighth.

5. Steve Rando, Lindsey, Ohio. Rando competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018, recording six top five and nine top 10 finishes. He scored his fifth career Attica win on May 11. Rando’s average A-main finishing position was eighth.

4. John Ivy, Fremont, Ohio. Attica’s 2000 410 sprint champion and 1993 305 sprint champion competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018. He recorded nine top five finishes including four runner-up finishes and three thirds. Ivy finished out of the top four only twice. His average A-main finishing position was sixth.

3. Brandon Moore, Clyde, Ohio. Moore competed in all 12 A-mains and never finished out of the top 10. He recorded five top five finishes including a season-best second on May 4. His average A-main finishing position was sixth.

2. Kyle Capodice, Sandusky, Ohio. Capodice competed in all 12 A-mains in 2018 and only had one finish worth than eighth – a 10th place run on July 6. He racked up eight top five runs including a pair of third-place finishes. Capodice’s average A-main finishing position was fifth.
