$10,000 Sponsorship Contest Launched by Tick Mike’s

Entries Announced Monday, Voting Begins March 1

Tick Mike’s is giving Connecticut race teams something new to compete for. The focus is on sponsorship instead of the trophy.

Tick Mike’s Tick and Mosquito Hose Spray is offering an opportunity for one driver to win a $10,000 sponsorship. Beyond the grand prize, second place is $5,000. Third get $2,500 and Fourth through tenth receive $500. One person who was eliminated (11-50) can win $1,000.

It is exclusive to competitors at New London-Waterford Speedbowl, Stafford Motor Speedway, and Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

“He’s always had a love for racing,” Tyler Meyhoefer said of his father ‘Tick Mike.’ Meyhoefer is managing the contest. “He’s always helped everyone. We’re family friends with the LaJoie’s since the Danbury Racearena days. That’s how far back that goes.

For us, it’s not really what the market can do for us, it’s for what we can do for the racing community because we just love helping people especially the people racing Waterford like the X Car division and all that stuff that don’t really have that much money. That’s why we’re doing this competition this year to give those guys a better shot.”

The Danbury, CT company has sponsored Mike Christopher, Jr., Ted Christopher, Tyler Hines, and Jonathan Puleo recently.

“My dad’s name and our company rather hasbeen thrown around most of Connecticut tracks for quite a few years now and my dad’s helped quite a few.

… This year to kind of help us out, I brought this idea up to maybe do a competition. It’ll help people who you wouldn’t regularly help that you would regularly reach out to, and in the long run, it would help us save a little bit of money there.”

Meyhoefer reviewed the 50 drivers and it represents a diverse group. He appreciates how much additional financing can benefit a team.

“I was really surprised that we had just as many X Cars from Waterford as we did SKs from Waterford, Stafford and Sunoco Mods from Thompson. So, it’s just people are seeing that this competition could do really significantly help them and that doesn’t matter what division you’re in.”

I’ve had people in this competition tell me that if they win the $10,000 Grand Prize, they’re going to move up a division, it would help them that much. And I’ve talked to people to where they’re saying my biggest sponsor is the fourth or 10th place prize. And that this $10,000, kind of seems unreal to them.”

Voting is the key to advancing in the first two rounds. Drivers can only vote once per day, but there are no limits on others casting votes. The top 25 will advance into round 2 on March 15. The top 10 are set on March 30 and the prize winners are chosen during a Facebook live broadcast video March 31.

The 50 entries will be announced Monday.

“I hope everyone in this competition spreads the word about the voting. I hope everyone has a great shot at this competition and winning that 10 grand. Sincerely from the bottom of my heart, and I know from the bottom of my dad’s heart, just thank you, for everyone who supports us throughout the years. Thank you to all the drivers we supported and sponsored throughout the years for pushing our name and getting our name out there because when we put our name on the race car to get our name more recognized, it’s just to help people out.”
