Short Track Super Series Modifieds are Back at Port Royal Speedway Sunday, March 24
PORT ROYAL, PA – Modifieds, the ‘Speed Palace’ is waiting for you.
After a rousing debut at Port Royal Speedway last October, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco returns on Sunday, March 24 for the ‘Speed Showcase’ event.
Port Royal plays host to Round No. 2 of the STSS Velocita-USA South Region presented by Design for Vision and Sunglass Central, a 40-lap big-block/small-block battle offering $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag. Modifieds are featured in a fan-pleasing doubleheader with the ULMS Super Late Models.
After an absence of 30 years, the Short Track Super Series brought Modifieds back to the Juniata County Fairgrounds last autumn in a thrilling event topped by Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa. The Modifieds produced three-wide racing that won the hearts of Central Pennsylvania fans.
Watt completed a late-race pass of a rim-riding Brandon Grosso for a victory he called his most memorable of the season.
The ‘Electric Company’ ultimately beat David Van Horn, Duane Howard, Grosso and Craig Von Dohren to the line.
Watt, of course, will lead a talent-laden Short Track Super Series field back to Port Royal for the springtime appearance prior to the start of weekly racing at Northeast venues.
For the ‘Speed Palace’ pit and grandstand gates open at 11 a.m. The drivers’ meeting is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 1:15 p.m., with racing at 2 p.m.
Adult grandstand admission is $25. Students (ages 12-18) pay $15. Children 11 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.
The Port Royal event takes place one week after the Short Track Super Series season gets the green flag on March 15-16 at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway with the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial.
Port Royal ‘Speed Showcase’ information has been posted on the Short Track Super Series website.
