Derby Nation TV to Feature Strawberry Slam from Cleveland County Fairgrounds

SHELBY, N.C. (April 22, 2019) – Carolina Derby Promotions announced today they have reached an agreement to televise the annual Strawberry Slam at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds on Derby Nation TV. The May 11 broadcast will feature all headlining divisions from the event on the same outlet where the nation’s other major demolition derbies are brought to a nationwide audience.

The annual Strawberry Slam has quickly become one of the final, major warmups prior to the sport’s Memorial Day weekend crown jewel Bash for Cash in Ohio, meaning teams and drivers are working to try new concepts, parts, and techniques to see what can provide an upper hand in national-level competitions. In its short life, the event is already considered the must-attend event of the Carolinas’ derby season, kicking it off as part of the final day of the Cleveland County Strawberry Festival.

Production for the Strawberry Slam weekend will be guided by some of the same key personnel who produce Derby Nation’s critically acclaimed broadcasts of Blizzard Bash and Capital City Carnage every winter and spring. Much like those events and others on the channel, Fans can expect multiple cameras covering the action along with various driver and personality features, plus instant replays of on-track events which leave a lasting impact.

“This is something we’ve been looking for since starting this event and Carolina Derby Promotions,” said Billy Monroe, co-promoter of the event through Carolina Derby Promotions. “When Derby Nation wants to get involved in building your event, it’s a big deal, and we’re honored to be added to the list of promoters and top-tier events they cover on a yearly basis. No doubt, this will be huge for our drivers, their families, sponsors, and fans.”

Strawberry Slam features four headlining class builds including “Full Size” which features what the industry refers to “new and old iron,” 80’s and Newer Stock, Front-Wheel Drive and Compact, and an increasingly-popular Mini-Truck/SUV/Mini-Van build which encompasses America’s move to bigger vehicles the last few decades. Each class is expected to be a “one-shot” event, meaning a feature heat will determine the winner without additional qualifying contests. Youth events including lawn mowers and Power Wheels will also be part of the weekend’s festivities.
