Hallstrom Rallies From Two Incidents to Capture 12th-Place Finish at Oxford Plains Speedway
OXFORD, Maine (April 30, 2019) – Evan Hallstrom enjoyed a successful season debut last Sunday during the PASS North Super Late Model Touring Series event at Oxford Plains Speedway.
“On Saturday we went out with the new car and we shook it down to make sure no nuts and bolts were loose, that everything worked well, etc,” he said. “We have the new Gen 6 Toyota Camry body so that’s pretty cool. The speed charts really didn’t show, but I knew the car drove pretty good. After talking it over we didn’t change much of anything (before the heat race) because I didn’t really know the car. It was about gaining seat time.”
The Hallstrom Motorsports driver finished where he started – fifth – during a heat race after a torrid battle for the fourth position. That locked him directly into the main event.
“It was a great race to be able to compete with those PASS guys,” he said. “It was a stout field. Being the first time running a Pro All Star Series race (in this car), it was cool to be able to qualify into the main event through the heat.”
Hallstrom lined up on the inside of the seventh row for the 150-lap main event.
“We were up to around ninth or 10th early,” he said. “I went into the corner and I was on the high side. At Oxford Plains Speedway you can really roll the outside well. My spotter said clear with a hole. I was getting into the gas and driving down. Someone was coming into the corner and they drove in hard. It tagged me and I overcorrected over the banking. It was a racing incident. No caution came out. I gathered it back up and I drove from 33rd to 15th before we got wrecked again on another racing deal. A driver left me a hole and I filled it. I probably shouldn’t have, but we learn from our mistakes. I went from around 20 th and drove up to 12th. The car was good. I thought I had a top-five car. All in all, I had a blast.”
Hallstrom rebounded from the pair of incidents to post a 12th -place result.
The team will return to action with the PASS North Super Late Model Touring Series on May 19 at Speedway 51 in Groveton, N.H.
