Memorial Day Weekend Offers Variety & Much to Do
Lime Rock Park’s 2019 Season Opener will kick off in two weeks. Time to get ready!
Celebrating the track’s traditional Memorial Day weekend of racing, the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic will be a one-of-a-kind event bringing you on-track diversity that ranges from the high-powered machines of Trans Am and International GT to the vintage masterpieces of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), and the eclectic variety showcased at the Sunday Royals Car Show presented by Hagerty.
Held Friday, May 24 – Monday, May 27, the event will consist of three days of on-track action and three simultaneously running car shows on Sunday. The preliminary schedule is available here: www.limerock.com/memorialdayschedule2019
Races will consist of the following:
- four classes of cars racing in the Trans Am Series by Pirelli,
- 12 groups of cars racing with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association
- Porsches and Ferraris racing against each other in International GT
With practice and qualifying on Friday, racing on Saturday and Memorial Day Monday, and the three cars shows on Sunday, this year’s Memorial Day Classic is jam-packed with automotive action. It’s especially meaningful to have Trans Am return to Lime Rock Park. The series is a time-honored tradition here since 1967, the year after the first races were held. Mark Donahue, Roger Penske, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Sam Posey, Paul Newman and many other big names all raced in the Trans Am here. Racing legend Dorsey Schroeder will be the Grand Marshal for the weekend.
This year, the competition is sure to be just as intense as it was in the 60s and 70s, and we look forward to seeing who makes it to Winner’s Circle to continue the history of Trans Am at Lime Rock. Visit this site to see some pictures from the day, www.limerock.com/memorialdayweekendphotos
