DCRP vs. URSS Sprint Car Clash this Saturday
DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 14, 2019) – It will be a clash for the ages at Dodge City Raceway Park this Saturday night with the United Rebel Sprint Series making its second stop of the season atop the 3/8-mile clay oval to take on the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars.
While the DCRP and URSS Sprint Cars battle it out, a full slate of championship chase action including IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, and IMA Hobby Stocks will round out the card that gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
It marks the opening leg of a weekend double with the second round of Micro and Kart action taking place atop the 1/7-mile Little DCRP clay oval on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
Ness City native Luke Cranston topped the opening event of the year for the URSS and DCRP Sprint Cars on April 6, outlasting Koby Walters and Taylor Velasquez for victory honors.
Brian Herbert and defending track champion Steven Richardson have topped subsequent DCRP Sprint Car events with Cranston holding the DCRP Sprint Car points lead by just 19 points over Richardson with others among the top five also including Jeremy Huish, Tyler Knight, and Jordan Knight.
Dodge City’s Herbert leads the URSS ranks into the night with a slim four-point over Zach Blurton with Kade Hagans, Tracey Hill, and Aaron Ploussard also among the early top five.
While Cranston leads the way in the DCRP Sprint Car ranks through the opening three rounds of action, other early leaders in the DCRP championship races include Clay Sellard in IMCA Modifieds, Dakota Sproul in IMCA Sport Modifieds, Angel Munoz in IMCA Stock Cars and Cody Ghumm in IMCA Hobby Stocks.
While Clay Money has topped two of three IMCA Modified features thus far, past track champion Clay Sellard of Bucklin has opened up a 51-point advantage over Jesse Smith and defending track champion Nick Link.
Dakota Sproul holds a 17-point advantage over Brian May and reigning champ Jeff Kaup on the strength of two IMCA Sport Modified scores while Colorado’s Angel Munoz has topped two out of three as well in the IMCA Stock Car ranks to establish a 54-point lead over Ondre Rexford.
The closest battle in the early going is in the IMCA Hobby Stocks with Cody Ghumm just three points ahead of Duane Wahrman with two-time and reigning champion Reagan Sellard just another 11 points back in third.
Tickets to Saturday night’s URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car Clash are just $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
In total, the 2019 season atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval is slated for 18 nights of action along with another eight Sunday cards atop the newly-constructed 1/7-mile Little DCRP clay oval.
