Big Opportunity On the Line for PASS Stars at Thunder Road this Weekend

NAPLES, ME (May 22) – A busy Memorial Day weekend for racing fans across the United States is on tap and the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models will again be a big part of it.  New Englanders will get to see the Northeast’s best Super Late Models tackle the high banks of the newly revamped Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday afternoon as part of the 57thAnnual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. And, a lot will be on the line for PASS racers.  Sunday’s 150 lapper at Thunder Road will be part of the “Road To The Oxford 250” programs, rewarding the top finishers with guaranteed spots for the biggest Super Late Model race in the country.

In Vermont on Sunday afternoon, PASS North competitors will tackle one of the most unique racetracks in the country.  Thunder Road International Speedbowl is almost literally a bowl, a tight quarter-mile, with some of the highest banks in the region. And with recent improvements, including a wall around the legendary speedway, the tricky Thunder Road layout could present an even bigger challenge to New Engalnd’s best short track trackers. This outstanding afternoon of racing will not only include the PASS North Super Late Models, but also the local ACT-style Late Models, competing for 100 laps.

While defending PASS North champion and former Thunder Bowl winner, DJ Shaw, has opened up to a 25 points advantage over Oxford Plains winner, Garrett Hall, the top six drivers in the standings are only separated by 60 points. Adding to the drama, former 3-time Milk Bowl winner, Nick Sweet, will try to close ground in the standings with a strong run at Thunder Road.  And, local favorite, Bobby Therrien will attempt to take advantage of his track knowledge to steal a win from the PASS regulars.

The weekend begins at Thunder Road on Saturday, with rotating practice from 10 AM – 1:15 PM. On Sunday afternoon, heat races will begin at 1:30 PM, followed by features for the PASS North Super Late Models, Late Models, Flying Tigers, Street Stocks, and Road Warriors.

PASS Super Late Model entry forms for Thunder Road International Speedbowl and Oxford Plains Speedway, along with the 46thAnnual Oxford 250, can be found at ProAllStarsSeries.com.

The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America’s premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway, Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway, and the PASS Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway.  For technical information concerning all PASS divisions please send questions to passracing@roadrunner.com.  For media or marketing questions, please contact Alan Dietz at 704-231-2039 or alandietzpass@live.com.  And, don’t forget to “Like” the Pro All Stars Series on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @PASSSLM14 to keep up with breaking news as it happens.
