Hallstrom Shows Speed at Thunder Road Before Mechanical Problem
BARRE, Vt. (May 30, 2019) – Evan Hallstrom showed plenty of speed last Sunday at Thunder Road International Speedbowl during the Pro All Stars Series 57th Memorial Day Classic event.
“We had kicked off the weekend on a high note and showed speed early on,” he said. “Unfortunately, a mechanical issue took us out of contention. However, it was good to see that we were fast and could contend at the front of the field.”
Hallstrom was quick in the early practice sessions, timing in third and fourth quickest. He started on the outside of the second row in a heat race and ended in fifth.
“We made a spring adjustment before the heat hoping to find an extra tenth or two of speed, but we went the wrong way with that adjustment,” he
“We made a spring adjustment before the heat hoping to find an extra tenth or two of speed, but we went the wrong way with that adjustment,” he said. “We quickly made the change back to have a good piece for the feature.”
Hallstrom lined up on the outside of the third row for the main event. He methodically moved through the field, picking off positions but also being cautious on tire wear. He made his way into third by the halfway mark of the feature and had his eyes set on the leaders. With five laps to go and under caution, Hallstrom’s race car shut off and he was unable to refire it. He was scored with a 12th-place finish.
“I rode in fifth for the first 50 laps or so just because it was a longer race and tire wear could play a factor,” he said. “Then we started making our way to the front of the field and picked off positions one by one. We had finally broke into the top three and had high hopes for a podium finish or better, but unfortunately we encountered a mechanical issue that ended our night. It’s a bummer, but I know we will rally back for the next race and can carry that speed through.”
Hallstrom’s next event is this Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, with the Pro All Star Series North.
