Carney Carries Momentum into ASCS Speedweek After Lake Ozark Spring Nationals Score
EL PASO, Texas (May 31, 2019) – It has been a series of new tracks in recent weeks for John Carney II on the Lucas Oil ASCS National trail, the most recent of which resulting in a victory in the Lake Ozark Speedway 360 Spring Nationals finale on Sunday night.
Now, the driver of the Sander Construction/South Plains Auto Transport/Mesilla Valley Transportation No. J2 Sprint Car is back in some familiar territory as ASCS Speedweek kicks off Saturday night at Amarillo’s Route 66 Motor Speedway.
“Everything finally fell together, we were really good both nights,” Carney said of the Lake Ozark Speedway weekend. “We have some good momentum going into Speedweek and it’s all tracks that we’ve been on.”
After firing off at Route 66 Motor Speedway on Saturday, this edition of ASCS Speedweek continues at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Tuesday (June 4), Lawton Speedway (June 5), Creek County Speedway (June 6) and then Kansas’ Salina Speedway on Saturday, June 8.
It will be Carney’s second consecutive Speedweek run after ranking seventh in Speedweek points last year.
Carney posted a pair of podium finishes in last weekend’s Lake Ozark Speedway Spring Nationals with a third-place run on Saturday night followed up by a Sunday night triumph.
Carney pressured for the lead in Saturday’s feature before finishing out the night in third and then picked off the $5,000 winner’s share in the Sunday night finale as he claimed his fourth career ASCS National Tour triumph.
“It feels good,” Carney said afterward. “We have been working hard and we have had a fast car, we just haven’t been catching any breaks. We finally caught at least one tonight.”
Carney looks to carry that into Speedweek as action fires off on Saturday night.
