Saturday Night Recap June 15, 2019 with Kyle Souza
Dave Darling just keeps on rolling. He started deep in the Pro Stock field for round one of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series 65 lap feature on Saturday, but don’t let that make you think he didn’t find his way to the front. It was Darling who was chasing down Mike Brightman in the final laps looking for the win. And it was Darling holding the checkered flag when it was all over.
The multiple-time champion passed Brightman and never looked back, picking up his third victory in the first four races of the season. I mentioned it last week, but those offseason rules changes just haven’t slowed that team down one bit. It was a strong night for Brightman, and although his sixth-place result doesn’t show it, he had one of the fastest cars all night. Austin Blais, a driver who’s had success from the Minicups all the way to the Late Models, ran a solid third.
The Everett’s Auto Parts Late Model feature was another classic battle between two veterans. Our Late Model division continues to put on one of the best shows in all of New England, and they are starting to do it on a weekly basis. This time, it was Bobby Tripp and Mark Jenison racing side-by-side in the final laps. In the end, Jenison was finally able to hold the Seekonk checkered flag. He had been so close so many times before, and it was a pleasure to watch him celebrate in Victory Lane with such elation.
The Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Sportsman class was a battle between two veterans as well. Steve Axon, who’s had his fair share of ups and downs early this year, was holding the checkered flag for the second time in four races.
But it was another veteran, Craig Pianka, breathing down his neck in the final circuits. Pianka was there, on the bumper, but just couldn’t make the move.
And in the Seekonk Sports Trucks, Mike Cavallaro was able to return to prime form. The multiple-time champion in the division might have been struggling early in the season, but it seems like they improved the truck enough to grab him a checkered flag. He started up front, led the entire race, and wasn’t going to be denied.
