Star Speedway 6/15/19 Race Report

Epping, NH – It was “Pack the Track Night” at Star Speedway on Saturday, with an extra-distance 50-lap feature for the NEMA Lites, double features for the Maddy’s Car Wash Six Shooters, a 30-lapper for the Brickyard Mini Stocks, the Northeast Classic Lites, and the fan-favorite Star Troopers all on the schedule.

The NEMA Lites ran fast and furious over the first half of their feature event, with Anthony Marvuglio leading the way in the Glen Cabral machine, and Richie Coy giving chase in the second spot.  By the 30-lap mark, Candia’s P.J. Stergios had climbed his way up from ninth on the grid to run third, and he was headed to the front.

Stergios made quick work of Coy to take over second, and leader Marvuglio was soon in his crosshairs.  Stergios shadowed Marvuglio for several laps, and when they came up on the lapped machine of Matt Merry, Stergios dove underneath them both coming off turn two to assume the lead.

It was all but over from there, as Stergios opened up a couple car length lead and held it to the checkers, with Marvuglio hanging on to collect runner-up honors, and Ben Mikitarian taking home third.

In the first Six Shooter feature of the night, Danvers, MA ace J.T. Cashman continued his perfect season, making another late-race pass to collect win number six on the season.  Seabrook racers Brandon Flanders and Adam Knowles finished up the podium, with JoJo Roberts, Jr. of Dover and John Cashman of Danvers, MA fourth and fifth.

All good things must come to an end, and Cashman’s winning streak did just that in the second 20-lapper, which saw Northwood’s Shane Horvath dominate the action to collect his first feature win of the season.  Knowles, J.T. Cashman, John Cashman, and Nathan LeClair were the rest of the top five.

Andrew Harmon of Farmington burned the midnight oil making repairs after a nasty crash the previous week, and the hard work paid off with his third feature event win of the 2019 season.  Harmon got out front early, and he pulled away to a comfortable lead on the way to victory.  Dan Sweeney of Barrington and Aaron Day of Rochester took second and third.

Derrick Marsan of Methuen, MA was once again the “Heartbreak Kid” in the Northeast Classic Lites, as the second generation driver led the field with the laps winding down.  And once again, Duane Skofield of Plaistow made a late-race pass to score the win, leaving Marsan a disappointed runner-up.

Next Saturday, June 22, it’s the return of the 350 Supers for the annual Jen Garland Memorial event, along with a full program of racing action.  For more information, visit www.starspeedwaynh.com, or follow us on Facebook.
