NASCAR Saturday Night Recap August 10 2019
Mark Hudson finally is a feature winner at Seekonk Speedway. He’s run the ACT Tour, and just about everything else you could think of in New England with his Late Model, but he was able to etch his name into the record books at the third-mile on Saturday night. Even though the 30 lap feature was a rough one, with a lot of torn-up race cars, Hudson was in front of it all.
He took the lead from Mike Duarte just after a restart before a rain delay, and held off a late charge from Ryan Lineham in the final circuits to score his first win. Hudson and his family are some of the nicest people you will meet in the paddock area each Saturday night, and there were plenty of congratulations for him following the race.
In the Pro Stocks, it continues to be the David Darling show. Darling started deep in the field, but he wasn’t going to let that slow him down. He sliced his way through traffic in the Tomassi Law Associates 45 lap Power 5 race, and blew everyone away in the final laps. He was able to slide by Tom Scully Jr. for the top spot and drive away into the moonlight. Scully, who’s been inching closer to Victory Lane, was able to hold down another second-place effort, while Ryan Vanasse put together a strong night, with a third-place finish.
The Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Sportsman division put on another show, this time with former champion Scott Bruneau returning to Victory Lane. Bruneau worked his way to the front from his fifth-place starting spot, and wasn’t going to be denied. He held off a hard charge from Adam Petty, who quietly had plenty of speed to be a threat for the win. Kyle Casper, who started 10th, charged his way through the field into third at the finish after passing Vinny Pangelinan late.
The Seekonk Sport Trucks feature saw a championship contender return to glory. Barry Shaw Jr. might have scored the win, but it was Rookie of the Year contender Connor Souza who was the major threat early. He passed for the lead, and held off Shaw for the first half of the race. But, when Shaw closed the gap and looked to the outside, there was nothing Souza was going to do. There was some contact, and Shaw got sideways, but he was able to hang on for the win. The Truck title chase is one of the closest at Seekonk this year, with Shaw inching closer to Richie Murray at the top with his win. That battle will be one to watch down the stretch of the season.
