NASCAR Saturday Night Recap August 17, 2019
Kevin Casper had waited a long time, but he was finally able to return to Everett’s Auto Parts Victory Lane in the Pro Stock 40-lap feature on Saturday night. The Phil’s Propane team had worked hard over the last month, trying to grasp the handling with the new rules package the division offers this year. When the 40 lap feature took the green, Casper immediately took control, and wasn’t going to give it up. He held off Dylan Estrella and Fred Astle over the final laps to earn another Pro Stock victory, celebrating with his crew and family in Victory Lane.
Craig Weinstein might have returned and shocked the Late Model division by capturing his first career win in the class, but the real story of the night for many was Tommy Adams. After wrecking his race car a week prior, many hours spent in the shop paid off for Adams, who returned to the podium with a solid third-place effort. A little bit of a rough night for Mark Jenison helped Adams take the points lead in this division with just a few races remaining — as he now leads by four over Jenison and just six over Ryan Lineham.
It looked like it was going to be a former Sport Truck champion hoisting the trophy in their 25 lap feature, but after technical inspection, it was a different former champion earning the top spot. Mike Duarte returned to competition for the first time in many weeks, and showed the speed in the Truck right off the trailer. Duarte finished second on the track to Rick Martin, but inspection earned Duarte a checkered flag. Richie Murray, who leads the championship battle by 24, finished second, while Lenny Guy had a solid run for third.
The Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Sportsman class was a wild fight from green to checkered, but three of the top five didn’t end up passing post-race inspection on their way to the glory. Chad Baxter and Chris Gomes had crossed the line first and second, but neither were able to make it through That handed the win to points leader Tyler Lallier, who seems to be the favorite for the title, while his father, Paul, was awarded second. Scott Bruneau, Corey Fanning, and Sparky Arsenault were the top five at the finish.
