Twenty Divisions Announced for 57th Annual Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park
THOMPSON, Conn. — With just 32 days remaining until the drop of the green flag on the 57th annual Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, track officials have released 20 different divisions that will compete during the weekend.
All five of Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series classes will run their final races of the season, with five champions to be crowned. The Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Mini Stocks, and SK Light Modifieds® will thunder around the Connecticut oval in action.
There are also 15 different touring series divisions that will invade for the weekend, headlined by the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. As part of a tradition, Whelen Modified Tour teams will head for Thompson to decide their championship battle, with the championship celebration to follow the Sunoco World Series 150.
Joining the Whelen Modified Tour on Sunday, the ISMA Supermodified division will run their own 50-lap feature, crowning their champion at one fastest tracks in the entire New England region. The NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites are also two winged divisions that will compete during the Sunoco World Series weekend.
The American Canadian Tour returns to Thompson for a 75-lap feature on Saturday night, deciding their champion under the bright lights of World Series weekend, while the Valenti Modified Racing Series will join them as a Saturday headliner, with a 50-lap feature of their own. Thompson’s Late Models will compete on Friday night, giving drivers the chance to also compete in Saturday’s ACT main event.
Headlining Friday night, the Granite State Pro Stock Series returns to Thompson for another season, bringing Pro Stocks back to the high-banks of TSMP in the thick of their title battle. The Exit Realty Pro Truck Challenge, North East Mini Stock Tour, NHSTRA Limited Sportsman, Pro 4 Modifieds, Street Stock Showdown Series, Open Vintage Modifieds, STAR Modifieds and STAR Sportsman wrap the full list of 20 classes.
Over the next week, Thompson officials will release the full schedule for Sunoco World Series weekend. However, for reference, practice will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, with qualifying at 4 p.m., followed by feature racing. Practice begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, with qualifying at 2 p.m., and features to follow. On Sunday, feature racing will begin at 1 p.m., with the Whelen Modified Tour concluding the day of racing.
