Elma, N.Y. – (April 30, 2020) – Virtual “Thursday Night Thunder” has been adjusted in accordance with the Speed51.com “Short Track Draft” Thursday moving the Lime Rock Park return of Modified racing to the road course to next Thursday, May 7.
The Series will add a race on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at New Smyrna Speedway. The race has been organized by Modified racer and past Race of Champions 250 participant, JB Fortin of Holtsville, N.Y.
Cahill, a former Riverhead Raceway Modified competitor, and a crew member for Fortin, was a victim of the COVID-19 coronavirus, which has also taken its toll on the Cahill family. Fortin sought out a way to honor his friend and came up with the idea.
“The virus has really taken its toll on everything,” stated Fortin. “This took a severe toll on his family and our race team. He was a tremendous help to our race team and we are definitely going to miss him. Honoring him with a race, even on i-Racing, was something that we felt was fitting for his legacy.”
Fortin has all the entry and event information at www.jbfortin.com. The event will feature twin 29-lap features and be shown as part of the Speed51.com Race of Champions Modified Series e-Sports program at 8:00pm this Sunday. The combined finishes of the two 29-lap features, which was Cahill’s number when he raced will decide the overall event winner.
Over the weekend Race of Champions management in conjunction with Speed51.com and Presque Isle Downs & Casino will announce a Series of i-Racing events that will conclude with a 250-lap Race of Champions Modified Series event.
The Race of Champions partnered with Sim Racers for Mental Health for a series of events during the late Fall 2019, into the Winter ending in January 2020. Tommy Kreymborg, a young racer from North Sea, N.Y., was crowned the intial Race of Champions Series eSports champion.
