Tigers Open Triple Crown Series at White Mountain This Saturday
N. Woodstock, NH – The Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers take their turn in the spotlight this Saturday, June 27 at White Mountain Motorsports Park. The opener of the Jon Parks Tractor Triple Crown Series will pit the best of White Mountain against invaders from throughout Vermont and New Hampshire in a 75-lap quest to top the region’s premier support division.
Familiar faces are expected to abound on Saturday night with Tiger racers eager to show off on the big stage. From two-time defending White Mountain champion Shane Sicard of Barton, VT to reigning Triple Crown champion Jason Woodard of Waterbury Center, VT, the pits and the grandstands will be buzzing with anticipation.
Thanks to a pay-per-view broadcast by Northeast Sports Network, racing fans around the world can see the Tigers leap and bound. Additional Triple Crown events are scheduled for August 22 and September 12, keeping the excitement going all summer long.
The second season for the Jon Parks Tractor Triple Crown promises to be even more breathtaking than the first. Year number one for the series saw the three largest Flying Tiger car counts of the year at White Mountain and three of the best races to go with it. With early numbers for 2020 outpacing last year, it looks to be a year of growth for a division whose history dates back more than 50 years.
Saturday’s event also counts towards the season-long Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tiger championship. To almost no one’s surprise, Sicard tops the standings after two point-counting events as he hunts for a third straight title. However, he is just one point ahead of Hardwick, VT’s Jaden Perry, who broke into the White Mountain winner’s circle for the first time this past Saturday. Veteran Michael Clark of Littleton has continued to run strong following his non-point win on opening night and is the highest-ranked New Hampshire driver in the standings.
Youth has also been served early in the 2020 season. Rookies Kasey Beattie of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Hunter King of Woodbury, VT have both run well early with Beattie making it onto the podium one week ago. Meanwhile, uncle-nephew duo Michael and Matthew Potter have showed their agelessness with strong results. They’re expected to take on several Thunder Road regulars and part-timers chasing the glory of the bonus laps and bonus cash.
The Triple Crown opener is part of a full card of action to wrap up a busy month of June. The Foley Oil & Propane Late Models had a strong turnout in their point-counting opener last weekend with veteran Derek Ming taking the victory. As such, he stands up top after round one of the “King of the Mountains” title chase.
Still, plenty can change in round two. Eight-time defending champion Quinny Welch of Groveton, NH has a top-5 streaking in point-counting events that goes back to 2019. Graniteville’s Stephen Donahue subbed for his dad John on Saturday and gave him a great start while veterans such as Mike Bailey, Oren Remick, and Stacy Cahoon can never be counted out.
In the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini’s, the question is whether anyone can knock Littleton’s Tyler Thompson off the top peg. The second-year racer has one the first three features of the year in the Mini’s including both point-counting features. Veterans Brett Jackson and Adam Sicard both are on top-5 streaks and ready to pounce at any opportunity. The Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Trucks round out the program with 10-14-year-olds such as Thomas Smithers VI, Logan Farnsworth, and Damion Sicard who’ve shown they aren’t afraid to mix it up like their adult counterparts.
Racing at White Mountain Motorsports Park goes green at 6:00pm this Saturday, June 27. The Jon Parks Tractor Triple Crown Series for the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers headlines the card with 75 laps of green-flag action. They’ll be joined by the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini’s, and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Trucks.
Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids). Northeast Sports Network will once again offer a live pay-per-view of the event for $15 on www.NSNsports.net and most mobile/smart TV platforms.
